drookit
The most visible way to tell them apart is the front drive casing....1c is single piece cast whilst the Vc is 3 part bolted. There are other differences but its the most obvious, the hybrid had a cast front upper hull married to flat plate mid to rear. I am about to start building a standard gun and a firefly to represent the 2nd Fife and Forfar Yeomanry part of the 29th Armoured Brg within the 11th Armoured Div post D Day, this was my late fathers unit.
wellsprop
Will you be doing a WIP? I'd love to follow the build, especially due to the link you have with the unit! Ben
Sgt.Squarehead
I think you might need a Churchill for 4RTR. http://4and7royaltankregiment.com/1943-1947.html

I think that goes to show how the guys felt about the Churchill! Ben
Sgt.Squarehead
I think it shows how they felt about the '88' more! I've not managed to find a Firefly with eyes.....Obviously can't rule it out, but I've not found one. I completely missed the cast front and single piece transmission in that picture, sure identifiers of a Ic Hybrid. Doubly embarrassing because I'm actually fiddling around with the bits for a Coldstream Guards Firefly Ic Tulip using the Dragon running gear, turret and rocket rails with a Friendship Models composite hull. This one (and his mates):

This one (and his mates): I do have a thing for pushing the limits and milking the "it cant be disproved" logic. Go check out the Auster hack aircraft I made. Adorned with invasion stripes thrown hurridly over the serial nunber as well as pin up nose art and a score board covered in black crosses (typical British humour). I know that stuff similar to this DEFINITELY did happen, many Austers and other hack aircraft had s/n's painted over and ground crews put many different types of art on aircraft; I think it's a bit of tongue-in-cheek fun to be had reflecting on some of the un-orthodox going-on's during wartime. I think it is quite unlikely that a Firefly had eyes painted on. But I think it is highly unlikely that no tanks got any art what-so-ever Ben
Sgt.Squarehead
I'm of the same mind.....My Red Nieuport is based on a profile, but it wasn't quite 'red' enough for my liking so I stretched things a bit. Still think it might prove more satifying to do the eyes on an 'Easy-Eight'.....The Trumpeter kits are reasonably priced and a decent build OOTB. Centaur95
Ben, I was a bit slow... Given the title of this thread (...spitfire loony...) you could of course do 'Spitfire' - a Sherman Vc Firefly belonging to No.1 Troop, A Sqn, the East Riding Yeomanry - that landed on D-Day Cheers, Centaur
Sgt.Squarehead
Which brings us right back to the Sherman Vc (after an interesting meander), presumably eyeless and from Millicast last I heard.....Is there a profile for this vehicle? Sgt.Squarehead
Here are some decals that might be useful, scaled to 1/76 so spot on for the Millicast kit, indeed I suspect they were designed for it: http://www.dantaylormodelworks.com/27th-armoured-brigade---set-3-36-p.asp

wellsprop
May do if I can fig out how to post the photos as I am a bit of a technophobe It depends if the photos are online or they are on you computer. If they are online veiw the image before right clicking on it and choose (copy image URL/location). When in the reply box, click on the little picture icon on the toolbar and paste URL there. Job done. If they are on your computer, upload to photobucket (you will need to create an account if you do not already have one), before repeating the above Ben
Centaur95
ben, There's a photo of 'Spitfire' in Mark Hayward's 'The Sherman Firefly' (published by Barbarossa Books). I thought I had a lo-res copy of the image but can't find it. However, I did use the image to create a four view image of the markings. I'm sure somebody (either Archer or Bison Decals) do a sheet that includes the markings. The census No. is T-212632 Cheers, Centaur Edited November 27, 2014 by Centaur95
Sgt.Squarehead
Looks like Spitfire may well be included in that DTM set (bottom left corner of the sheet).
wellsprop
Once I have the millicast kit, all I'll need to do is source the decals... I haven't a clue when I'll get the kit, maybe sometime around or after xmas! Ben
Sgt.Squarehead
If you contact Dan he can probably supply you with kit, decals (and maybe an etched detail set for light-guards etc.).....He's directly connected wilh Millicast IIRC.
Foghorn Leghorn
Could you suggest some nice 72/76 figures that could be converted to RAF/ British Army servicemen? I've been looking for a long time for a British military figure that has (could be converted) to be posing with a camera to take a photo...Ben Here's a good place to look at: http://www.dantaylormodelworks.com/ for all your smaller scale stuff, even includes etched folding chairs
