Courageous
This is the only vignette that I've ever done...about 8 years. I've always wanted to present my models as more than just a model but it just doesn't seem to happen. Here, we have the Italeri Commando Car that was built basically OOB with a few little tweaks. The figures are from Dragon's SAS kit. The wall I stumbled across somewhere, it looked right scale wise. I coated it roughly with filler, leaving a couple of sections bare, I think it worked well. I don't think I'll be a figure painter, many a modellers nemesis, might explain why I've avoided the faces. What's your thoughts please, should I continue with the idea of vignettes?

HL-10
That is a nicely composed little piece. The figures look good. With figures, the more you do, the better they become, so don't give up on them!
cmatthewbacon
It's very nicely constructed and painted -- and you shouldn't be afraid of faces... just get stuck in. I think a vignette is a great way of displaying vehicles and figures. If you want to keep going in that direction, you can do no better than invest a small amount of money in Shep Paine's "How to Build Dioramas": http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?an=Paine&sts=t&tn=Dioramas Hands down the best modelling book I own. The thing he emphasises throughout is that a diorama is a "model that tells a story". I think what's slightly lacking above is a sense of that. The wall section in real life probably wouldn't just be a short segment unattached at both ends. If it was me, I think I'd run it so the wall goes off the base at one side (so just cut it and paint it black or finish it like the base, to suggest it's just been "sectioned". Then I'd have both guys peering round the other end -- which can now be where there's a gate or door in the wall. And set the Jeep so it's at a bit of an angle and the steering is offset. Then you have two guys driving at speed down a road, hearing firing from behind the wall, screeching to a halt, and cautiously peering round the corner to see what's there, hoping that it's not a couple of panzer grenadiers with an MG42... bestest,M . Courageous
Thanks for all the comments. As I said, it was my first but I'm not put off, just got to think about details like tracks and free standing walls.

phildagreek
I like it, it can be easy to over complicate the scene, yours is nice and simple, showing the subject with a simple base. Good effort.

Good effort. My thoughts exactly...keep it simple. Don't want to get bogged down on the scene when I want to move onto the next model.
