Eric Mc
It seems that the holds are called by an automatic system rather than human judgement.

GordonD
A propellant valve has failed to close, so another hold. But they've seen it before and know how to clear it. So, fingers still crossed...
Cheshiretaurus
Likely just an indication fault.

GordonD
I suspect we're not going to see a launch today. If it hadn't been for that sod in the boat, they'd have launched before the winds got up...
Mike
Are they likely to be in trouble for entering the area? I'm sure there's a few NASA guys that would like to strangle them right now
Eric Mc
Once you start getting holds, problems start building. A lot of the problems seem to me to be linked to the fact that the extreme cold of the Liquid Hydrogen starts causing problems with moving parts - such as valves. I can't help wonder if they would have such problems if the first stages of these rockets used kerosene as their fuel - like the old Saturns. I can't recall any Saturn launches suffering such delays. Cheshiretaurus
The valve problem would still have held things up once the countdown had got to that stage but the boat issue did eat up a fair chunk into tha available launch window.
Eric Mc
I'm not so sure. It's the holds that cause the problems that lead to valve issues. If they had been able to go at 12.05 I reckon the valves would not have been problematic.

Eric Mc
Looks like they are planning on overriding the automatic "Hold" that kicks in if the wind exceeds the limits. They are going for a manual instruction based on 19 knot winds. Bloody computers.

GrahamS
Can't think why but I found the whole thing rather nail biting! Anyone know what time tomorrow? Graham
Eric Mc
As the launch window is based on daylight hours available and nothing else, I would expect that they will try for a similar timing as today.
