something of interest for you U boat guys

My father was aboard the corvette HMCS Fredricton during the war. They had a U boat surrender to them and it was escorted to Londonderry. He managed to get a page out of the log book. Unfortunately he took a blank one with no info on which U boat it was. My mother and I would be interested in finding out this out. In the meanwhile l thought you would like to see the blank page just out of curiosity

Hi I have done a little digging, at present cannot find a record of a specific U-boat that surrendered to your fathers ship, but it is of note that Londonderry was the final destination for a number of U-boats under escort from other locations to await their fates.

U-boat.net has a surrender section, but as stated it covers the ports and locations of known surrender and is no way complete.

I t may be worthwhile lookinfg at HMCS Fredricton log book it should state which Uboats were convoyed to Londonderry.

At the end of the war lots of U boats surrendered themselves up to Allied ships, were taken to Londonderry, then out to the Atlantic and scuttled.

Looked thru my Derry u boat books seem to list the boats but not the escorts!!!!

No sign of the log on line but a enquiry at the Canadain archive office should produce a copy
