JWM Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 (edited) Hi, Fairey Battle from Airfix is an old mould far from accuracy. Some years ago I tried to made from this kit a model, which will be more similar to Battle. This was more than 15 years ago, anyway - I still remeber that I cut the fuselage in front section, reshaped almost whole wings, and made a different tail. There were minor correction also. Many thanks to KRK4M (present at BM under this nick) for supporting me with plans. To commemorate RAF forces supporting France in 1939-40 I made model in markings of 218 AASF, based in Auberives, France 1939-1940. Have a look and please feel free to comment Regards Jerzy-Wojtek Some more shots: Edited July 22, 2017 by JWM Switch to Flickr 18
billybookcase Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Very well done. After reading a story about Battles in the Commando comic I've wanted to do a Battle but if it involves cutting fuselage and reshaping wings then I don't think I'll be doing it soon. BB 1
JWM Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 Thank you BillyBookcase (BB) and Darby for nice comments. Cheers Jerzy-Wojtek P.S. BB: now there is not only Battle Airfix available (more or less) on the market - it will not need to cut fuselage, nor to reshape tail nor work on wings neither...
Murdo Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 That's a very battered and bruised looking plane. Very nice build and weathering. 1
Mitch K Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 A fantastic result from very crude starting materials. A credit to you! 1
stevehnz Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Nice job on that & a heap better looking that Airfix' original, well done. Steve. 1
billybookcase Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 P.S. BB: now there is not only Battle Airfix available (more or less) on the market - it will not need to cut fuselage, nor to reshape tail nor work on wings neither... Ooh, who else makes them now then? BB
Graeme H Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Great result, I'm sure a lot of work went into that The Battle is one of those aircraft that really caught me out when I saw the real one at Hendon for the first time, it's just so big 1
SoftScience Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Great job on the reshape. Now that you went through all of the hard work, maybe Airfix will release a new mould. 1
JWM Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Ooh, who else makes them now then? MPM and Special Hobby make them - there is more data, for example: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234961750-special-hobby-fairey-battle/ Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
Devilfish Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 Nice job. I have always liked the Fairey Battle and have built a few over the years. Recently got hold of a set of scale plans and another kit to do exactly what you have done. 1
JWM Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 Thank you Devilfish, Softsciens, Greamy H, Bill, Steve, Mitch, MArtin and Murdo for kind comments and acceptance. I appreciete also many "likes" which appeare here. Bill: actualy I was surprised, when I've learnt from link about MPM Battle, that it also has mistakes, which requires reshaping... Anyway - Battle is nice machine. Cheers Jerzy-Wojtek
Luis Alfonso Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hi Jerzy!!! I agree with you about the inacuracies of the kit, but there are not bad models but good modelers like you to do miracles with the not soo good models like this one. The story sez that this one is based in a not accurate plan the Fairey company gave to Airfix and when the mistake was discovered...........well until today.... I liked a huge lot the way you have built and finished this Battle and the soft but wonderful way you have weathered her, really deserves to be congratulated with a hats off and standing ovation!!!! Thank you very much for sharing, Cheers, Luis Alfonso 1
JWM Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Luis, Thank you vey much for you so nice coment!!! Cheers Jerzy-Wojtek 1
Luis Alfonso Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) Hi Jerzy: Its the least I can do, really recognize the genius of a true master modeller who do miracles with not so good kits and Old Fashioned techniques of Vacuform, Balsa and bits and pieces......like a very gifted jazz musician....a teacher and a real master modeler!!!!....just the way i'd like to build a collection!!!! Cheers My Friend!!! Luis Alfonso Edited November 9, 2014 by Luis Alfonso 1
