stevej60
Hi folks, here,s Airfix,s Hurricane in 1/48 built to represent a MKII in Russian service, thanks to info supplied by Troy I have altered the kit,s spinner by simply using putty and sanding to a shape more representative of this mark, also scribed new panel lines to cover the extra four guns carried and added their detail on the wing leading edge. The model is 2mm to short has a different tail wheel( which I have had a go at) and there are other details not correct but for a £6:99 kit I,ve enjoyed building three of them with only the Rumanian version left to finish which I hope to post tomorrow.thanks for looking build info below, thanks for looking! http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234967231-airfix-148-hurricane-raf-rumanian-russian/ Edited October 24, 2014 by stevej60

Buzby061
Lovely work. It would be nice to see a real one flying in that scheme, I've read they've recovered one from Russia. Pete
Snitok1983
Nice work! But the decal is wrong: the lettering should be "За СталинА" not "За СтадинУ"))))

jean
Steve, this Hurri is gorgeous! Makorokoto, as we say congrats in my patch of the galaxy! I had noticed the stalinou which should be stalina, but as I am not a communist party card carrying member any longer, it did not bother me too much. But whoever designs decals should pay attention to such details. Whatever, I am sure stalin will not do loops in his coffin because of it! It is a great build and I particularly like the paint chipping you have done. JR

Aardvark
I read an inscription as "ЗА СТАНИНУ"/ "ZA STANINY!" that translation programs translate as "For the Bed" STANINA it here in Russian https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Стнина and German https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holm_(Artillerie) Articles in English according to this term in Wikipedia aren't present, but that it was clear in Russian a STANINA it is part number 4 in this drawing of the milling machine: Naturally such inscription on this Hurricane, couldn't be! stevej60
Strange as wings pallette have a profile of this aircraft with exactly the same lettering, but I suppose it would be like posting Bader,s aircraft with the wrong codes to us British Modelers. Richard Ward? This: Sorry, but you chose from all options presented on the site a wing palette: http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/79/pics/1_5_b1.jpg http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/79/pics/1_5_b2.jpg http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/79/pics/1_5_b3.jpg http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/79/pics/1_5_b4.jpg http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/79/pics/1_5_b5.jpg that where most of all mistakes! By the way process of creation of a decal Authentic decals on the Soviet Hurricanes you can look here: http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_22552.html in the same place there is also a photo of planes on which became decal including on what was chosen by you: Actually on one of Russian-speaking forums about 40 pages on which all mistakes and typographical errors connected with the wrong writing of Cyrillics are laid out.... generally we already got used. B.R. Serge P.S. apologies to our Russian members! Troy Smith
Steve was told the Sky Decals sheet was not the best, but that's what he had. Overall a neat build too. The decals don't even have 'Za Rodinu' on the starboard side.... see http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234963507-all-the-stupid-hurricane-questions-here/page-8 Note that the Authentic decals may get the cyrillic correct, but I think a lot of their profiles on colours are pretty suspect Note the fantasy patches of other grey's and greens. a very common mistake is showing RAF markings overpainted with Soviet colours.Aircraft supplied by the British and US to the Soviets usually were already painted with red stars, previous markings overpainted with relevant British of US colours BUT many profiles show fading and variations in colour due to supplier repainting before delivery as use of VVS colours. A brief aside that maybe of interest, later US supplied planes were painted with red stars at the factory, and in the case of later B-25's, in Soviet specified scheme. Why, In short when the US dropped painting of aircraft in late 1943 this was not acceptable to the VVS, so they B-25s were then painted by North American in a scheme specified by the VVS. http://z15.invisionfree.com/sovietwarplanes/index.php?showtopic=60 on test in the US before delivery, 3 colour uppers in Field Drab/Olive Drab/Slate Gray. see link for more information, photos and diagram. Note the style of star application though. VVS usual pattern was underwing, fuselage and tail fin. HTH
