stiliqn007 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) I've gone pretty far with my Mini Cooper build. Tho I'm questioning myself whether i have to glue the rims to the brake disks. This is how they both look And to dodge the obvious answer, yes I have tried, but they don't stick to the brake disks. The middle piece has a larger hole than the rim requires Edited October 21, 2014 by stiliqn007

Gobs of Espresso Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I wouldn't loose hope just yet, not everyone logs in or on while reading the posts, enabling them to reply. I have not built or encountered this kits, sorry not sure what to tell you but based on the previouse or post assembly instructions, there might be a pattern for what should be glued and what should not given that it is a Tamiya kit. If you think it won't hold together without an adhisive then it would probably need some, a tiny amount allowing you to pull it apart and make corrections. The Tamiya cement (white cap bottle) allows me to correct and make adjustments but I only put a tiny amount on a toothpick and dab it onto the part. Hope this helps
Bonhoff Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I built this back in 1985 and if memory serves me right you'll need to use a dab of glue. Have the hubs got polycap inserts? If not then I think it's glue.
stiliqn007 Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 So i was right, this IS a very old Kit. The way it's made just looked weird and old. Altho for the time it was made (or..ok i might be wrong and that they've made new versions of the old kit) the mold lines on the car are very few. Okay, thanks guys,i guess ill be gluing them. Toothpick it is!
triumphfan Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 B27 & B28 are supposed to be glued together, trapping part B37 inside. If you glue them carefully the central part B37 should rotate freely. The peg inside the wheel then glues to B37 allowing the wheel to rotate. It is an old kit and it may be necessary to slightly widen the hole in B37. Hope this helps. I have built a few of the Tamiya Mini's in the past and currently have one on the bench. Good luck with the kit, it can look really nice if built with care. Steve.
stiliqn007 Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 well...i can easily say i effed up on the suspension and my gluing skills. As i glued them all,1 of the rear wheels was off the ground by 1-2mm. Then the "surprise" came as i found out the glue had eaten out the center piece that's suppose to be glued to the middle part which rotates the wheel. I've tried fixing the problem with the 1 wheel off the ground problem. I noticed 1 of the drum brakes was not connected to the rear suspension so i glued it and tried pulling it up and holding it with masking tape. Hoping that at least that works out, wheels tho,i don't know what ill do with them if i can't glue them back on. Oh and btw,im using Revell Contacta tube glue.
