thepureness
Hi everyone, looking for a US helicopter specialist here so I can figure out what the fuselage colour of the aircraft is. While in images the aircraft appears black or a very dark gray I know most US choppers are normally a shade of olive drab, which again is a colour i'm finding hard to track down in an acrylic paint. The aircraft i'm considering is the academy 1/35 AH-60L Blackhawk DAP, any help would be awesome https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AC12115
Parabat
US Army Helo Drab? http://www.affinitymodels.co.uk/p107171/MM2024--Modelmaster-II-Enamels-15ml---(FS34031)-US-Army-Helo-Drab-(F)-/b0-4766-4766 Seems to be that dark olive drab that can look like black grey at the same time! Richard E
US Army Special Operations helicopters operated by the 160th Aviation Battalion (The Night Stalkers) are generally matt black. To answer your second question, "regular" US Army helicopters are painted in FS34031 but I'm afraid I'm not sure if it's available in acrylic. Alan P
The DAP BlackHawks are indeed Matt Black, as are all the MH-60s operated by the 160th. The stencilling is also not yellow like the decals in the Academy kit, but Olive Drab. The correct stencils and some great markings are available from Werner's Wings, the Night Stalkers Pt.2 decals. If you can get hold of Testors acrylics, their 34031 is about as close as you can get. Otherwise they also do it in enamel, as does White Ensign Models (WEM) Colourcoats. Don McIntyre
Xtracolour does "Helo Drab" also, albeit with a gloss finish...
sniperUK
CARC Black, Tamiya NATO black gives a good finish , slightly faded with a greenish tinge look, pure black looks too stark on a model and you need contrast with the radome etc. A bit dusty but you get the idea.
