bootneck
I use this type below. It can be easily and quickly attached and detached from the workbench, therefore it doesn't clutter the bench all the time. It can be fitted in front or to either side of your working position, I have mine set off to the left for my work, and then just remove when I don't need it. It is very sturdy; can pivot and rotate easily to any angle you wish, especially useful for cutting/filing at awkward angles. It is also useful, with suitable covering such as brown paper or tape, for holding a model whilst spraying. The work height is 6in (15cm) above the table so less stooping to reach your work! little-cars
Like most tools there are loads of different types. Do you want one that screws to the bench? What size jaws are you looking for? Are you after a steel one or aluminium? Are you looking for one that is fixed or that swivels like the one above? Paul little-cars
hacker
was looking for one like the one bookneck got, something not permanent . l have considered one like his but Was thinking this one by Dremel which looks nice but will it do what it's suppose to do Then there is the Panavise which is nice But the clamp is extra. The Panavise system is more flexible as you can purchase a variety of other different vises that goes on the base allowing options Not really sure about it too. I am not being fussy just money is limited and l have to make sure the one I purchase does not end up being a bad investment Edited October 19, 2014 by hacker
hacker
This is not so much as a vise but still interesting. Something Jeroen Peters posted on his facebook. It's very creative and flexible for a jig which it may not be a vise but it maybe something l would be interested in too
Mitch K
Mike I've got one of these. I got a 25-odd cm disc of 8mm mild steel from the scrapyard, drilled a centre hole and tapped it, and you can screw the vice to this. It's perfectly steady and avoids death threats from clamping vices to the table! I use the same base for my flytying vice, for the same reason...
