roymattblack
Can anyone here help? Like a good few sad old geezers here, I'm frequently trying to find stuff from my childhood. Today I saw something that reminded me of toys I loved when I was 'little' - back in the late '50's or early '60's. They were simple plastic astronaut/spacemen figures, moulded in a silvery polystyrene. Reasonably realistic - not 'cartoony' - and the most memorable part was that they had clear plastic removable 'helmets' - shaped a bit like a stumpy test tube. Straight sided but domed over the top. I'm guessing they were a few inches tall - maybe 3" or so. Do these things ring any bells? Can anyone help??? Yes - pathetic maybe, but I'd like to get a few if I can find them. Roy. Pete in Lincs
Brittains did a space range - try the bay. Also, another company did cowboys & indians with interchangeable parts. I'm sure they did a space series too. Could it be Timpo? Not pathetic. Sufferers are called collectors. The power of nostalgia is very strong. I'm fighting buying a bunch of Frog kits. I Need them for the same reason.
hendie
It wasn't Major Matt Mason by any chance was it? - I have toyed (sic) with the idea of getting some of these again myself
roymattblack
It wasn't Major Matt Mason by any chance was it? - I have toyed (sic) with the idea of getting some of these again myself Sadly, no... He was much later. The little figures I remember were just solid 'fixed' spacemen with clear removable helmets....... Around 3" - maybe even a bit bigger, but no more than 4". Roy. georgeusa
They are knockoffs of the Ajax Spacemen. The Ajax Spacemen looked like this: You might try the ALPHADROME ROBOT AND SPACE TOY DATABASE

roymattblack
I had a peep, and I 'think' it might have been the ones below... They were apparently available in various metallic colours - mine was silver. I'm guessing they are pretty unobtainable now, except at a mega-price. MANY thanks for the link - at least now I know what to look for. Roy.
bhouse
Now this rang a bell with me too. Plastic spacemen, about 3"-4" tall and with very distinctive clear domed helmets. Moulded in white-ish vinyl with an attempt to hint at zero gravity, as lanyards. oxygen feeds etc were 'floating' rather than sagging due to gravity. None of those listed above looks familiar at all. I have a feeling that mine were made by William Britain. Part of the Swoppets (sp?) range, perhaps, as I seem to remember that certain parts were interchangeable. However, I can't find any reference to these online. Does anyone else remember these?
Silver Fox
There was a series of 54mm figures as you describe given away free with ceral around 1960. I was given a couple by relatives as my mum and dad didn't buy that brand (whatever it was).
