Bonhoff
Hi all,Much as I'm enjoying seeing all these planes being built, I thought I'd be a bit different with a railway item.Much use was made of narrow gauge railway lines for moving supplies up to the front and a number of standardised designs were procured for this purpose.More info here.... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Department_Light_RailwaysThe kit is by Parkside Dundas to 009 scale (00 scale running on N gauge track)Apologies for the blurry image.More later once I start building,IanJ Edited November 11, 2014 by Bonhoff
Bonhoff
Didn't take long! Just 5 parts here, quite big sprue gates but plastic easily workable. There would have been a gap between the roof and the side so you can hopefully see some styrene strip glued on as infill. Lead weight in the bottom so it doesn't derail - although I haven't go a layout here to put it on I do have quite a bit of N-Gauge stuff that could be used as a basis, and roof added.
Blastvader
Well that makes a change. I must admit to having no interest in trained but I am fascinated by the hobby and those that indulge in it. Keep it up, I'm looking forward to watching this progress.
CliffB
Nice to see something different Bonhoff. How are you going to present it? Cliff
Bonhoff
Probably fish a bit of track out of my stash and display on that. In an ideal world I'd have a Tin Turtle to tow it with - only found limited drawing information online though.

Bonhoff
Handrails added to doors and brake wheels added to bogies. Next stop, paint shop.... And what's this here? Would it be a drawing of the "Tin Turtle" perchance? OK. Build getting more involved now. Now that I'm scratchbuilding trains I have conceded that I have finally turned into my dad Chassis/frame unit - I think I have something that would be suitable to provide motive power as well. Just added a paper cutout to the chassis to give you an idea of how it should look. Hopefully the name makes sense now. This is the "Protected" version, the fully armoured version would be used closer to the front line.

Bonhoff
First coat of Tamiya Neutral Grey on the body and NATO Black on the bogies, Given the time constraints I'd better get a wriggle on with the Turtle... Sides on, decided on a static chassis for the time being, courtesy of a PECO N-Gauge wagon chassis. Wheelbase is a bit too long so I'll have to shorten it. Hopefully more progress later today. Bonhoff
Wagon is complete, I guess I've run out of time for the Turtle. That'll have to go straight into KUTA VII Paint finish - Tamiya Neutral Grey for the body, RLM Grey for the roof and Nato Black for the bogies.

Old Man
Great build and a wonderful subject, Sir. These little railways were a very important element, and keeping track of traffic on them was the focus of much aerial reconnaissance effort.
