Heads up for anyone interested that the Centre will be open to the general public for a week, conveniently just after the IPMS Nationals at Telford for anyone who is in the area.

£5 entry which I can't remember paying previously, but it is for a good cause.

Cosford is always worth visit: the collection there is simply great and I'm sending everybody I can there.

But, why in heaven's name are they organizing this AFTER the Nationals.... instead during the same week....?!?

Thanks for the "Heads up", I feel a meeting in the coffee shop with my work colleague is called for that week!

The company will be sponsoring this too!

Also note, the Sea Balliol is back on display.

Hope they keep it there this time.

Rick.

Visited yesterday an all in all an excellent day out. Went specifically to see the Dornier which is now (mostly) out of the poly tunnels.

It was good to see it and the progress that has been made. The young conservator chappie was (understandably) better versed on conservation techniques than the plane itself. He also had the annoying habit of saying, repeatedly, that the Dornier had crashed in 'the ocean'. The creeping Americanisms aside (I would have walked out if he had called it an airplane) he was able to say more about future plans: the next step will be to remove the salt residues and this might reveal some of the original ('black') paintwork. It will be coated with a stabilising wax prior to be its display 'as is' (but hopefully right side up) in Hendon.

Spent the rest of the day walking the hangers and dodging the hoards of Brummie schoolkids (they were actually pretty well behaved and their enthusiasm was quite enjoyable).

Highlight was seeing the (ex?) IWM fw 190 A8 - which is good to see up close and on the ground. Still not sure if this is now a permanent fixture. The guide thought it was, but the 'temporary' information board suggests not.

A good day out and to top it off I got 9 out of 10 in the inter-active 'Mustang quiz' (though it's probably aimed at schoolkids)
