1/32 Revell EC-135 Essex police

Recommended Posts

Been working on this for the past few weeks, My brother is in the police and he sometimes goes up in the Essex police helicopter. He asked me to build this for him in the Essex police scheme. He's paying for everything so I guess technically, this could be my first commission! He's not too fussy about details just as long as it looks something like the real one. Will be getting some decals made especially. Anyway here's some pics....

The real one...

This is the camera that came with the kit but as its the ADAC version theres no instructions to mount it anywhere so will have to come up with something...

Had a small problem with the bottom panel as it seemed to be too small for the hole, so added some card to get it to sit at the correct height. also added some weight while I was there...

On its legs...

Also a fair bit of scratch building has been going on.

First up the legs for the landing skids have to be extended. The gaps were then filled and sanded.

Then added the extra step...

This particular police helicopter has some sort of compartment underneath which my brother tells me is for storage and radio/surveillance equipment? Also the kit comes with a surveillance camera which ive used but had to build the circular housing. Out with the plasticard...

Then started to build the searchlight. Which is on a mount which hangs off the compartment at the bottom.

And on with the yellow, I used humbrol insignia yellow over a base coat of white.

Do you have any pics or measurements for the storage box underneath, or is it all guesswork?

Lovely work btw...

I have no accurate dimensions, but my brother was able to supply lots of reference photos (as he's actually been up in it a few times) as well as the ones I've found online. So I'm hoping I've got a fairly decent size/shape.

I think it's based at Borham in Essex.

Nice work, I do like the UK Police chopper schemes. I think I need to do one in 72nd, seeing how Peddinghaus in Germany do the decals. Thanks for the pics.

This is a really brilliant subject and interesting project - different from the norm here on the forum. I like your scratch building and wish you luck with the rest of the build - I look forward to seeing the chopper completed

apologies for not updating, this was completed around Christmas and was given to my brother as a present so unfortunately havent had a chance to get any decent photos yet. I wasnt 100% happy with it, especially the decals, but hes very happy with it. Its sitting in a nice display case at his house so next time im there i will try and get some pics.
