Ozzy
Is the SSyms the Trumpeter or Dragon version? If it's the Dragon one, you may find you have differing widths in the Gauge of the wheels and track. It was because of that difference that I haven't bought any of the Dragon wagons to go behind the 52.MH,Thanks for the insight, I had been looking at dragon kits but was unaware of any differences in sizing" so much for standardisation". I did read as I was looking at pictures of the SSyms that a company produced it in resin, however have since stopped doing it as Trumpeter reversed engineered it and produced their own, so am really looking forward to building this kit. It was my plan just to have that with tiger, but plans change, I have plenty of track, just going to work out the placing of everything on a board, I did also find some plaster platform sections that I may add yet a little undesired yet on that. Madhatter
"SSyms that a company produced in resin" - that wouldn't be LZ Models would it? Libor has some wicked stuff. I want to buy some of his other resin flat beds and the water filling station for the 52 but I just don't have the room for it - yet. He also has about 3 update sets for the 86 but I am not sure what they are

I have seen the LZ sets for the BR 86 they look fantastic, but me spotting them was a little late for my build, the figures I plan to buy are made by LZ though. I know how you feel about wanting to add rolling stock, I have a real big yearning at the moment for train/ rolling stock models, I'm in a space dilemma also.Ozzy Edited December 24, 2014 by Ozzy
Ozzy
Wow, I have just found some light bulbs to go in the lamps of the BR 86, from slingshotmodels.com they come in sets of 3. Just got to drill out the lamps to put them in should look amazing once completed.
Ozzy
Just a small update, In between turkey, relatives and Mrs Browns boys, I have put together my SSyms 80. These are just a few shots of what it will look like once finished, as I was quite keen to see it altogether. I will post some detailed pictures of the SSyms 80 once I come back from seeing relatives, unlike Tommy I managed to get all my coffee stirrers before being caught ( I required a lot less than Tommy), these are to replace the flooring as the kit isn't that detailed. My next dilemma is which way to have the engine? Pushing or pulling. These are some photos of each way, I'm thinking pushing looks more interesting? More in a few days. Ozzy
Some photos of the SSYMS 80; The build was done twice then stuck together. First the bogies there's 2 of them one looking down and the other upside down to show the braking system This shows the detail on the sides. This is one half together ( it's a very sturdy build). This is the detail on the side of the frame. This is the only bit I'm going to change with real wooden bits ( coffee sturs). The start of the wooden slats. The buffer detail. The coupling to the BR 86 I just need to find some tube for the vacuum brake hoses, to join them together.
Madhatter
Pushing - definitely! Great work so far Ozzy. I'm glad you figured out how to link the platform to the engine - I was beginning to wonder how I would do that if/when I attach the K5
Ozzy
Pushing - definitely! Great work so far Ozzy. I'm glad you figured out how to link the platform to the engine - I was beginning to wonder how I would do that if/when I attach the K5 Thanks Madhatter,Yeah I think pushing too. I think that's how they connect, I've had a look on the Internet, for couplings, most of them showed simple chains. It seemed the only way they could go with the engines first, I did need to change the D shackles around, as the smaller of the 2 doesn't fit on the towing eye of the SSYMS 80. Then the SSYMS 80 on top, and it works without coming apart. I have found some hose in my spares box for the vacuum brake hoses, This is a picture of the engines coupling, with the platform coupling lifted out the way. but won't do that bit until I've nealy finished the project. Your Leopoled will be a sizeable kit but it will complement your BR 52. Ozzy Edited December 30, 2014 by Ozzy
Ozzy
Just a small update this week; I got round to sticking my sticks down all 62 of them, It looks nice once completed, I've also done a little scratch building too, This shows a cupboard and the rocks I used for the coal This is from another angle with another cupboard, A bit of filling and sanding then time for an under coat.

Ozzy
This week I wanted to paint something. I set my air brush up, put some paint in and squeeze the trigger, then bubbles, the nozzle in my air brush had cracked leaving most of it in the main body of the airbrush. So back to hand painting. I also found a master box set to add a little more? I need to fill and paint but i think they work well with the dragon chaps Using real wood for the slats has worked really well, the paint soaked in nicely and it's starting to come together.
Sgt.Squarehead
Very nicely composed little scene....Maybe add a few mess tins and bottles, I've never known a poker game that didn't feature a drink or two.
Ozzy
Thanks sarge, I've been looking in my spares box for some bits and bobs. I was going to keep I dry, but now you come to mention it a few bottles of wine will give a little more atmosphere, as its a long train ride to Russia. Ozzy
Not achieved that much over the past few weeks. I've been filling and sanding, as I've been waiting for my new air brush, as I thought I could fix mine " that was a costly mistake". Well this is sort of how it will look once finished with some telegraph poles from a mini art set I had, just need to sort the base out, paint it all, job done. The base to put into contex is 76cm x 20cm.

Ozzy
Oh yes...coming together nicely Ozzy. Any thoughts on the weather condtitions? Thanks Bodmin, Looking at the photo it looks like the conditions are dry, however having been to Bescot stadium rail junction a number of times in my younger days. The ground had a covering of oil and grime, I've seen a picture of a different black train that was very sooty which caught my eye, the SSYSM 80 will be greacey and grimy. So hopefully it will turn out ok. Ozzy
Ozzy
Just a small update, I've painted the master box set, just need to put something on the cards,I think they look ok, they work well with the Dragon figures. I've also drilled out the base to allow the telegraph poles in. Just need to pop to the model shop for some black paint for the BR 86. Started on the ground work, just need to stick it all down. It's starting to come together now.
Ozzy
Not done that much modelling lately, hopefully get this project completed over Easter. For now a small update on the ground work, the stones between the sleepers have been glued down with PVA glue, I mixed them both together them put them in place by hand. The central bit was done using air dry modelling clay, these pictures were take last night, so hopefully not to much shrinkage. Ground work in general. Ground work in detail. Once it's all dry in going to give it a going over with my airbrush then add the finishing touches to it. Ozzy
