Radpoe Spitfire
Whilst browsing through that well known auction site, I saw a revell kit I'd last seen on a shop shelf in the 1970's, ie the 1/32 Harrier GR1, which got me thinking- why has this (and a few others) never seem to have been re released? The old wartime diehards, such as the Beaufighter and Mosquito, are regulars as are the Cold War Phantoms. However the Harrier, Mirage and Mig 21 seem to have gone and been forgotten-despite their popularity in other scales. Does anybody know why? Giorgio N
Guess that the reason is simply because the WW2 types sell more than the cold war ones. In any case, the Mirage III and its recce variants have been reissued every few years, with the latest reissue coming some 8-9 years ago. The MiG-21 saw a similar pattern but it's not been reissued for more than 10 years. With the Trumpeter kits now available I'm not sure the Revell kit is today missed that much The Phantom has been reissued a couple of times but the one available today is a totally different tool, much more modern and way better. The Harrier on the other hand has not been reissued for some 30 years now.
tempestfan
The Harrier on the other hand has not been reissued for some 30 years now. Not quite correct - there was a US release as an AV-8A (#4718) which I bought in 1996, and I think was quite fresh then. Awful decals... The MiG-21 was last seen ca. 15 years ago - at least I think the "MF" uses the basic PF tooling -, and was "regular" as a unified Luftwaffe and had (IIRC) a special release as a Yugoslav/Serbian machine. The Mirage has also had a number of "special" releases over the past 20 years, e.g. as Belgian Mephisto (and another FAB version), Swiss , plus a 2003 or thereabouts release using the original artwork, looking like an old kit (I ebayed one a couple of years ago thinking it was original). The latter is the full kit, the Belgian version(s) may not include all airframe parts and I think omit most of the armament.

Actually the newly tooled MF parts replaced the PF ones so you can only do two variants PFM & MF. The 2003 Mirage III reissue has the old box but a HUGE decal sheet with extra French, Swiss & RAAF options is included. http://designer.home.xs4all.nl/models/mirage-3/mirage3-1.htm
