tonyot
Cheers everybody,.....thanks for your encouragement along the way too! Kev69- Ah yes,.......`ringing the bell' as the old sweats used to call it,......many of them bore scars to prove they had jumped from Whitleys and called it the `Whitley kiss'! The blokes jumping from the rear part of the hatch actually ran more of a risk of having their parachute malfunction, either by having a rigging line pass over the canopy or even to suffer a full `Roman Candle'...remember no reserve chutes for the Brits in those days! This was because they were facing into the slipstream when they exited! When I jumped (admittedly in a more gentlemanly fashion by the side door!) I always tried to make a point of getting by back into the slipstream if possible and I never got twists as a result. I`ve bought another Fly Whitley in order to build a 138 (SD) Sqn para/agent dropper so the hole exit will be open next time., Cheers Tony

LOL I obviously had `69' on the mind,......then they say we think mucky thoughts every 5 minutes don`t they? I obviously need a cup of tea to calm down! Sorry bout that mate! georgeusa
Incredible build. Sorry to hear about the back problems. It's a shame to hear GB treats their veterans in the same shoddy manner as over here. I hear so many complaints about veteran's services in my practice. You deserve better. I just got lucky with my injuries leaving nothing but talking points about the scars. Over here getting a sympathetic congressman to "inquire" about your treatment seems to wake up medical officials in the veteran' hospitals. Could you try something similar? Anyway great model as always. You have hairy stick skills I truly appreciate. And, I wish you the best.

Cheers George, Glad you like it and I`m also glad that your injuries are all sorted, it is nice to hear. We don`t have veterans hospitals over here, just the regular NHS ones and although we are supposed to get priority treatment,....the NHS don`t really recognise it in practice,....I`ve had arguments with doctors secretary`s and managers who don`t recognise it because they don`t think that we deserve `special' treatment or who just don`t know about it and cannot be bothered to check. I`m sick and tired of hospitals and doctors anyway,....they just go through he motions and don`t really care,.......I`ve just been left to rot on strong painkillers knowing that it is just going to get progressively worse and that is it. I tried to see a specialist lately to see if anything new has become available which might help,.....but .I ended up seeing a Polish quack who could hardly speak English who decided to punch me in the back and asked if that hurt,......if I hadn`t been sprawled over the bed in agony I`d have dropped him,......good old NHS eh! Anyway,....I`ve heard about a private doctor who is a whizz at back probems so I`m going to pay to see him and see if he can help,.......it just depends how much it will cost me, so fingers crossed, In the meantime lets build some more models! georgeusa
SWMBO has two bad disks from a horse injury and is on constant pain medication. Some days, she can't get out of bed. It has been a nightmare to try and find someone to treat her. I finally have found someone she has agreed to see, but prior experiences with back doctors have made her very suspicious of them. That and she is terrified by surgery. I keep trying to explain to her I'm the old fart that should be hobbling around. She is the young vixen that should be wheeling me around. I hope your new doctor can help. Constant pain can really wear you down. You are in my thoughts.
Potato Pete
Beautiful build there Tony. Whitleys aren't the most elegant of planes but you've captured its looks beautifully. Pete

Bill Bunting
It's another beauty Tony! looks like you need another cabinet! Once again I am very impressed by the painting, I could never get those results with a brush, or even my airbrush!! Hope you're feeling better! Cheers. tonyot
Cheers Bill, Glad you like it,.....yes I`m feeling much better thanks and I definitely need a bigger cabinet,.....and I never thought I`d say that! Looks like I`ll have to have a cull in order to fit more of the newer ones in. Cheers Tony

AdrianMF
The finished product looks great, and it took a lot of work to get there! I'm not sure that the Fly model is enough of an improvement to tempt me away from my cheap bagged Frogspawn issue, although the engines do look a lot better. The weathering really brings it to life. Nice... Regards, Adrian
Sir T
A super effort, a very nicely built model, The painting and weathering are nicely done too. Regards Stuart
FZ6
This looks really nice. I heard a few negative comments about this kit when It came out mainly regarding accuracy but it's turned out really well. I might try and pick one up at some point. Ed Russell
Very nice job Tony. As far as accuracy goes I think the engines are the main culprits - slightly strange looking Merlins - differently wrong to the Frog ones. there are resin replacements. Ignore all comments encouraging you to make the rear fuselage wider - that's wrong. there are threads around with a lot of information here on BM. They have announced a radial one recently. general melchett
Lovely job Tony, you've certainly done the old beast justice. I've got the original Frog effort somewhere along with the DB tiger conversion set but looking at yours now I'm tempted to go for the Fly version ....... tonyot
Thanks for your kind words everybody, I picked up the Fly Whitley Mk.III at Telford so I`ll be building another soon! It looks nice with the shorter fuselage and smaller tail turret plus the Tiger radial engines,......I`ll probably do it as one of those used for parachute training by 1 PTS at Ringway? Cheers again, Tony
Ptmvarsityfan
Lovely build of an aircraft which is full of character! I picked up the Mk I/II at Telford, the radial engined versions look even odder than the Merlin powered aircraft! Look forward to your build of the Mk III. keefr22
It really is all your fault Tony, as has already been mentioned, for leading us all astray - I had a Fly Whitley arrive in the post this morning, all as a result of your stunning model!! Very much doubt mine will ever turn out as good, but I'll have fun giving it a go! I know you've probably been down this route before, but with regard to your back problems & the intransigence of the NHS, have you tried enlisting the help of the British Legion or Help for Heroes? Aren't our donations to them meant to help guys like yourselves? Anyway, hope you're feeling a bit better, & thanks for sharing another superb build thread with us! ATB Keith Hiya Keith, Sorry mate,......I do hope you enjoy it though,...have you gone for the bomber or coastal version? Cheers for the concern re my back,.....the British Legion were great and helped me get my War Pension upgraded at a tribunal but Help the Heroes were only interested in helping veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars,.....I had my accident in the 1980`s during a training parachute jump, left in 1994 and wasn`t `officially' shot at,.....so I wasn`t `heroic' enough to be helped I suppose! I`ve been told that Falklands, N.Ireland vets have also been turned away too,..... so heroism must be just a modern thing although I take nothing away for lads and girls that they do help out. I also asked them if they could help a WW2 ex Para Regt pathfinder who was in trouble but they couldn`t. So basically mate,....apart from my pension I`m on my own now! I don`t even get help with servicing my wheelchair! Cheers Tony Lovely build of an aircraft which is full of character! keefr22
Hi Tony, Bomber version for now mate, but if you build a Coastal machine I'll probably be in trouble again...!! I do have an old Frog Whitley in stock that was intended for a Coastal version, but having seen how nice your model is & how good the Fly kit looks in the box I keep thinking life's too short & will probably bung it on e-bay!! I had a feeling you might say that about H4H as I think i remember reading that they only set up as a result of Iraq, but it still seems a bit harsh to me. I was wondering also about the Legion as to whether they may be able to help you with an advisor or somesuch to help you get better treatment from the NHS. My situation is in no way comparable to yours, but when I was medically retired from the Civil Service, I contacted Citizens Advice & they put me in touch with a benefits advisor, & it was amazing how much someone with specialist knowledge is able to help (not that I got that much in the way of benefits mind!), so with the Legion being 'specialists' I'd always assumed they'd be able to help people like you sort out the jobsworths in the NHS - it's disappointing to find out they apparently can't. Anyway, I hope you don't do too many go faster mods when you're servicing your wheelchair - at least not without some better brakes...!!
