Riggers.....If the RR Silver Ghost is the one I am thinking about.......The much photographed one sited at Beaulieu then there is a kit available. 1/24th scale in white metal. Look at South Eastern Finecast's website. It's been around for yonks (1960's). It is one of the old Wills Finecast range. I have their Bugatti Type 59 kit that looks really good despite its age. South Eastern make all the old Wills kits and years ago under the Wills ownership they took on the Auto Kits range. Less detailed than the Finecast car kits. Both these ranges cover some unusual subjects and make up into really nice models.

With regard to plastic kits, I would really like to see a Mark 1 Lotus Cortina, some Mark 1 Escort variants such as FEV 1H the 1970 World Cup Rally car and also a good plastic kit of the Metro 6R4 Rally Car.

Thats another one thats always amazed me thats missed the gaping maws of the IM machines, the Lotus Cortina.

I think the resin crowd up in Finland (sorry forgot the name) do one in 24th, as well as quite a couple of other british cars. Ive seen their Bmw 2002, not bad at all, needs a bit of work but not bad.

I remember having a discussion last december in the UK, with a shop owner, and his thoughts were that Airfix wouldnt re release their old cars again, because the market for them is very small.

Which, I suppose is true.

However, if you look at what is being produced today, theres a lot of 'oldies' starting to make an appearance, especially from revell. Aoshima is doing very well with their Vintage range, the american market sells more old car models than new stuff.

So what exactly is wrong with the British model car market? (Apart from the fact that they are the wrong scale....)

British market? Too small for the large manufacturers. Aoshima et al from that side of the world feed their local market first and foremost, almost regarding Eu as an off load or dump for surplus. They are also focused on the anime characters and classic Japanese subjects which emphasises the point. Even "classic" sports types are limited. F1 has a big following hence the popularity. 1/24 for Airfix vehicles is a non starter. Anything done before has been with someone else's molds. Revell would have to be our best bet which would mean it would have to have a strong German connection, thus a Cortina, Escort, Capri, Opel, VAG Group connection.

Just my thoughts...

Although we all drool over exotic machinery, what about that most ubiquitous British vehicle, the Land Rover? They were used by nearly every organisation in one form or another, and yet, apart from a couple of military variants in 1/35, there's almost nothing out there.

Well, there's the 1/24 Esci LWB Mk III in various guises, which is reissued by Italeri every now and then...

bestest,

What about the old Monogram Land Rover? They always seem to go for big bucks on ebay...assuming you can find one.

There's a 1/24 resin body available from a UK seller that appears on e-bay now & again. Bit rough & ready, but easier than scratchbuilding! He does have a website too, but I've lost the link & can't remember what he's called unfortunately. Something like ModelcarsUK? He also does (did?) a narrow body Mk1 Escort, Anglia & Consul among others. Lovely piccie that!

What I really, really want is a 1/12 scale Mk1 Escort. In the box I'd like options of round/rectangular headlamps & grilles, bare shell interior (so I can build one of my old rally cars), but with a full interior too (so I could build the Group 1 RS2000 I had as well). Also crossflow, Pinto, Twin Cam & BDA engines. Nope, I really don't want much....!!! (trouble is, if someone did bring this kit out, I'd buy so many of them that I could probably afford a real one (& yes, I do know the crazy prices they now fetch!!))

Narton did a resin kit (they also did a Mk1 Escort that looks nothing like a Mk1 Escort! I've not seen the Manta so don't know if that's the same...)

Hey Keefr...

The Manta is much the same, in a word... NOOOOOOO!!!

I built the Airfix DB5 and put all my efforts into it to make it 'nice'......

It's in my cabinet - because it's the first kit my lovely Samantha bought for me.

It really is a TERRIBLE kit......

It's SO bad, I'm tempted to get another and BEAT it into submission.

Roy.
