Space Battleship Yamato General Thread

Misrule

Recommended Posts

As our last thread vanished I thought it might be a good idea to set up a new one :)

There are a few builds planned or ongoing which might need a home, and this can also serve as a general discussion about the series and its by this point pretty sizeable catalogue of kits!

To kick off a few terrible pictures of some ships...

some of them look like they could use a dust :P
and a look at the alternate paint scheme for the battlecarrier which I really fancy taking a shot at :P

Oh - I like that carrier scheme - a LOT!! I wish I'd known about that one when I did mine.

So, what's up first then Jim? I will be along a bit later on - I need to finish my BR52 first before I start on another 2199 ship - which BTW will most likely be the Balgray

Whilst I'm on that topic (Blagray), does it also have an updated eye catching scheme like the Darold? I fancy something a little more interesting than green...

Once I get the old camera going again I have 90% of a dreadnought to share :) Good solid beastie.

The Battlecarrier should be showing up in the new film out December, probably on dvd early next year for us folks outside of Japan. Also there's a film compilation of the series out next month, abridged version of the story :)

I reckon what we see here is proof the Gamilas fleet likes to camo its ships :D Originally it was just one small task force in one theatre that had the camo scheme, but now we're seeing a brand new unrelated ship also in this scheme, that's a pattern :)

We'll know more after the film is out but I think this carrier is on deep range exploration/recce making it something of an elite unit. Hope it means we see more interesting paint schemes and a fleet carrier in camo would be awesome :D

Madhatter, I managed to find something different for the Balgray, its a custom scheme but it looks good enough to be canon.

All these camouflage patterns remind me of German WW2 naval camouflage, coincidence? I doubt it.

I'll be posting my fleet sometime tonight, not as large as yours Misrule, but large enough to fit comfortable on a shelf together.

That's a wicked find right there! Fantastic work - I love that scheme. I can't do it now because it's already done - unless it's a hint of what's to come in the new movie in which case - that's what I will do. Maybe I'll have to design my own splinter scheme....

I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work bhopper!

Bit of a leaked preview of some stuff from the new film, including new villain ships

We've seen these guys before in the show and they make a big impact later in continuity so nice to see them in force. They already exist in mini model form, if I were a betting man I'd say they'll be the next 1/1000 scale ships for next year.

This is the album of my full collection so far (excluding the ships which I haven't built yet from the Gamilas Shipset 3):

If you have any questions the do feel free to ask. I take great pride in these models and I would also take great pride in telling you about them also.

I drew a bunch when I was fifteen or sixteen and should have been paying attention in Chemistry :P Might still have some

Love the carrier and fighters in particular :)

I'd love to see some of those in 1/1000!

Here's my lot, sorry you'll have to click the links, it won't let me put the images straight into the post:

Let's start with the Gamilas side

Now the EDF, because I have no UNCN forces as of yet.

Andromeda and a battered (broken antennae) cruiser.

I'll post my 1/500 Yamato later in the week.

Love the Camo work :) And glad the carrier turned out well despite decal issues :D

My Andromeda took heavy damage from a cat based life form, but I still have some old cruisers kicking around somewhere :)

Btw, Misrule, thanks for the complements on the fighters and carrier! I like the faded effect you have on your models. How did you I get that?

P.S. I apologise for not directly commenting but I don't know how to.

Yes, shame about the decals, but I'm glad they didn't work because the end result from the paint is better than expected.

I'm hoping for a new Andromeda 1/1000 kit sometime in the future, if we get one I'd definitely get it. Love the Andromeda, and it's a shame about yours Misrule. I'd love to see some of you other kits if you can get a hold of them :)

My secret weapon is a ragged sponge :D

I don't have an airbrush, bit pricey, but I read a technique where you take some torn up sponge, dip it in thinned paint, then use it to lightly drag over the surface. It catches the raised areas to create streaks and highlights, but because the sponge texture is rough the patterns it creates looks random :)

Also can be used to create graded areas of fading if you use very thin amounts of paint applied in a circular motion :)

Here's an old picture of my 1/500 showing a fairly light application of the technique for some moderate weathering

291dm4x.jpg

And here's an example of a more extreme bit of heavy weathering

When my Camera gets working again, or more likely I get a new one :P I'll snap some old cruisers, my not in great shape Andromeda, and Domelaze :D

Hey guys, tonight I built my model of Melda's Fighter from the Gamilas Shipset 3 model set :D! Here it is:

http://s46.photobucket.com/user/SH2199/library/Meldas_Fighter

Enjoy! Also, I'd like to know what you think! I will be posting more pictures as I do more models from Shipset 3!

It's very hard to make out any detail in those pics unfortunately - the flash is washing it away. From what I i can make of it, it looks pretty interesting though.

Be good to see it all painted up

Love that tank Jim! Very nasty looking and well weathered to! Pretty darned good for someone without an airbrush :) What kind of tank is it? I've never seen one like that. Who makes it?

its a Bandai kit in 1/35 and its big! Absolutely lovely kit to build and looks quite intimidating when done :)
