S5 modeller
To be honest, the one I am getting from my local model shop was taken in by them. The reason! The chap who purchased it kept it in his stash, until realising how big it was, decided not to build it. He then sold it back to the model shop. Whilst in sitting in his stash, it acquired an eduard etch cockpit set. This is included in the sale. I have seen that they also do an etch set for the afterburner cans, but it looks rather fiddley and complicated.
Caerbannog
When you stick to the old three tone camo you can keep the kit exhausts. Only if you decide for a later grey scheme you should swap them for the Cutting Edge or Eduard parts. Rene

Some featherless Bones were still wearing SAC camo for some times. As mentionned in FOD decal instructions: Moreover, Revell exhausts are not very good, and seems to be for a prototype. regards Romain
Alan P
You shouldn't use the kit nozzles at all if you want a more accurate shape. The engine nacelles are too short by about 7mm, this makes the diameter of the nozzles too big and the whole shape is oversized. I used the CE nozzles and got them to fit by extending the nacelles with Milliput like this: Edited September 23, 2014 by Brokenedge
Caerbannog
That's interessing - good I did not start this beast yet :-) I saw a rather bad pic of "Spectre" in camo and thought it looks as if the exhausts are uncovered. Does anybody know if this is/was the case? Rene
rom1
Hi guys, Here are some updates. Being arounde the cockpit, I carried out with (trying) to glue the side windows. In fact, opening in the fuselage are wider than tranparent parts.. I had to play with liquid cement and testor's white glue: Then I continued work on the belly's bays. After Citadel's Skull White, I sprayed tamiya X2 white. The paint is then protected with a few layers of Microscale Satin's clear cote: All the parts painted white: Stored after clear cote... ... in order to get a sun drying Result: Then I applied a wide wash using sepia oil and Tamyia black wash: After removing the excess: Now I can add some wiring and do some colors enhancements. INTAKES Some more work here too. Intake ducts are closed and need a huge amount of putty on their junction line. I applied Citadel putty using syringe and needle: "Just a little pinprick.. there will be no more .. ahaaah.. You may feel a little sick" (ok sorry ) I did this operation two times. Filling. Drying.Sanding. repeat. And then controlled the aspect by spraying Tamiya Primer: Still some sanding to achieve.. Thanks for the interest ;^) Regards, Romain

Will Vale
Some serious puttying going on there, it's interesting to see how you approach the intakes. I like the pictures of all the white bits spread out, it looks like a spaceship Will

S5 modeller
Loving your work so far. I will throw my name in the hat, as I too have this kit ( seems a lot less rare than I thought it was). Have you seen the eduard etch set for the exhaust turkey feathers? Looks nice, if a little fiddly.
rom1
Hi guys! (wooo the Stig is here!! ) As for the Eduard exhausts, they look very nice. Maybe nicer than cutting edge ones. And more difficult to build The PE alternative gives you a more accurate diameter. The resin are maybe a bit smaller than it should. bye
rom1
Hello, some updates on the nacelles. I added the inner walls by inserting plastic card in the openings I made: Then I tried the White Latex paint technique. I was not very satisfied, I decided to spray some more Tamiya white. Tamiya TS30 Silver on engine fans: Then I did not followed the instructions. First I erased the pins in the lower nacelle part: Those pins are also reduced: Some serious sanding here: Now you get a better fit between air ducts and intakes. Intakes are first glued to the lower part: And then only, airducts are inserted: Then we close the nacelles: Oh .. yes, with some putty. Indeed... Result: Not extraordinary.. but sufficient :whistle:/> thanks for watching! Romain

Mike
It's a big kit alright, isn't it? It's a shame they misunderstood the construction of the bomb bay. It's actually one long bay with dividers placed inside to make the three smaller bays. I did start working on a replacement part for it, but didn't get much further than creating the single long arched bay, into which the detail would have been placed. I also made a start on the dividers, but didn't get a long way into that either. Maybe I'll finish it off one day, but who knows?
rom1
Hello! thanks you very much guys! Great - this will make my build a lot easier once I tackle this beast. Rene I'm happy to be helpful ;^) It's a big kit alright, isn't it? It's a shame they misunderstood the construction of the bomb bay. Alan P
Very nice work with the nacelles Romain. You've demonstrated yet another way to do it! Edited October 23, 2014 by Brokenedge
rom1
Hi guys, I am back! I keep going on with the nacelles. As mentioned here, the rear nacelles are too short http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=4079&view=findpost&p=1084166 So, you got it.. I will extend the rear nacelles. For that, I have to find a cylindrical part with the same diameter as the nacelles. OK, well.. I already have it.. In fact Revell gave me these parts. It is no more than the early exhausts found in the box. So, first i cut a ring: Then i thinned them down: Cutting edge inner parts are a bit trimmed to receive the plastic ring: Ring is glued and exhaust is set in place to check position: Then the part is inserted and glued in the nacelle: ready for heavy puttying?? Sanded off: Putty again.. with finer "green stuff" from Citadel: And finally, Tamiya primer: Et voilĂ !! Bon weekend! Romain
