Tiger331
Hi Folks, I recently acquired one of the excellent Cold War Studio 1:48 nose correction sets for the Eduard MiG-21bis. Unfortunately I was already midway through the construction phase of the donor kit and now have two options……try to remove the spine/fin and produce a MiG-21MF using a spare spine/fin set from another Eduard kit, saving the correction set for later or saw the nose off my current, partly constructed 'MiG-21bis' and use the conversion set. Question is…..has anyone else faced this dilemma and gone down the path of sawing off the completed nose of the donor kit, given that the correction set appears to be designed to be used with the separate fuselage halves before they are glued together. That said, it is a very simple affair that covers the first 26-27mm of the nose area and whilst it encroaches on the forward section of the nose gear bay area this would not be a problem since I am building the kit in 'flight mode' with the doors closed. Any advice gratefully received Mark
Jennings Heilig
Is this the guy in Bulgaria? If so, it's very nice. I've got the nose chopped on one MiG-21, but I haven't installed the resin yet. It's not quite a drop fit, and it's got some areas that will need attention, but overall it's a huge improvement to the shape of the bis nose. Tiger331
In the absence of any meaningful or useful responses to my original and specific question, I have now gone ahead and performed the surgery. I am happy to report that the six-part resin improvement/conversion set is a drop fit and superb. I needed the absolute minimum of filler and, I suspect, if I had performed the surgery as recommended in the improvement set, would not have needed any at all. It certainly goes a long way to resolve the accuracy issues with this particular part of the Eduard kit although I will have to continue to work on the others. Jennings Heilig
Perhaps the absence of "any meaningful or useful responses" means you're the first person with that set to get that far with it. I strongly suspect you are.
