Learstang
Always great to see new-mould kits of Soviet WWII subjects (I realise the Czechoslovakian examples are actually post-war)! John Thompson
Finally - sprue images! Looks great; I'll buy several of each basic version (La-5, La-5F, and La-5FN) as soon as the online shops get them into stock, but I'm puzzled by what I see in the image of the wing sprue. This is marked "Lavochkin La-5/La-7", but the drawings in the MBI La-5 and La-7 books show that the wing root reinforcements as depicted by the kit are those that were unique to the La-5FN and not present on earlier versions of the La-5; furthermore, the wing planform of the La-7 has a different shape, as well as wing root intakes that were absent on any of the La-5 family. So, in a nutshell, this sprue seems to be for the La-5FN only, not a generic La-5/La-7 sprue as the marking implies. Nitpicking, yes, but the opportunity to play Crucify the Sprue Shots arises so rarely for us VVS buffs... John

John Thompson
As far as is practical, this image created by Redstar72 and posted on Scalemodels.ru shows good agreement of the main components of the kit in comparison with the MBI drawings: I know, I know - who says the drawings are correct? Right or wrong, at least the kit matches them! John
Learstang
That's a big problem with the LaGG-3/La-5 - there are no extant versions to compare against, only fragments of the actual aircraft. A result of their being mainly wooden, I'm afraid, as the real ones long ago rotted away. All we have to go on are photographs and original technical drawings, and drawings (hopefully) done from these. These parts do appear to be in almost exact agreement with the MBI drawings, which seem to be the best around. Luckily, almost miraculously, there are two original La-7's left, Ivan N. Kozhedub's machine at Monino, and the Czechoslovakian example at the Prague/Kbely museum. I know there's even been speculation that Kozhedub's La-7 is a reproduction, as the original was supposedly consumed or heavily damaged in a fire in the 1960's(?), but close examination of modern photographs of his aeroplane lead me to strongly believe it is indeed the real article.
