This is the Airfix Vulcan from the 50th anniversary boxing. I was bought the kit by my mum who wanted a model of the display Vulcan. How could I refuse!

I remodelled the nose and refuelling probe to match the current look:

The only aftermarket addition - Freightdog 201 exhausts

It's such a familiar kit, I forgot how old it is and the building pitfalls are many. To Airfix's credit, the kit decals were very good, and this particular boxing donates £1 to the Vulcan to the Sky Trust.

Not exactly a pleasure to build, but a really impressive result. My mum is happy!

You made a cracking job of that one and you did a great job of replicating 558's unique camo pattern with the wing roundels uniquely inset on the almost centre of the wing.

Cracking ! Your mum has good taste,

Cheers Rob :)

Thank you Rob. But all I did was follow the instructions, so credit to Airfix again!

Can we get your mum to speak to our other halves so that we can all be treated to vulcans as a pressie ?

We could PM you names and phone numbers .....

Cheers Pat

I love any Vulcan and this one is exceptional - far better than the attempt I made of the same a number of years back. Is it true that XH558 is being de-commissioned? One of my RAF mates mentioned it on Saturday which I found hard to get my head around :yikes:

Haha, my mum gets more love than the Vulcan. She'll like that!

Thanks very much - I hadn't heard that, but it would be very sad. I'd only just got used to seeing it around again.
