Hi, hope you don't mind me joining this GB? Had this in the stash for some time, this seems a good reason to drag it out and get it built! Looks relatively straight forward, could do with some aftermarket decals if anyone knows where I may obtain any (Hannants are out of stock). Any tips appreciated!

Cheers

Hi "Forest", and welcome to the GB! I'm afraid that I can't personally help with the decals, but it shouldn't be that hard to come up with some?

Hi, decided to push the boat out and buy the Aires resin cockpit set. Still no luck in sourcing aftermarket decals though..... Anyway here's where I am, the Aires set provides lovely detail, pity my painting won't match! Thanks for looking

Hi, here's a little update as to where I am with this build. Aires cockpit is a good improvement over the kit parts though I can never seem to get photo etched belts to hang right, will have to see how it fits though...! I have also extended the nose wheel leg though I am not sure if I have increased the length my enough. Anyway a few dodgy pics for you:

gee I wish I had gone the path you're going rather than the piece of junk I've got!!!

The cockpit looks great. The canyon you have in the wing roots is an easy fix and won't require much if any filler! Use either thin plastic sheet or stretched sprue to fill the gaps, it's much cleaner and easier to work the finished joins, plus a lot less chance of loosing details.

Plus check out this site, about halfway down the page, excellent info on the FJ-4B.

It's looking good what you've done so far.

I have just been looking at the box art work and they appear to have gotten the side intakes correct, it's a pity nobody bothered to do it right with the model. With some careful work you should be able to knock them into shape.

look forward to seeing it finished.

Cheers Rich, but i think I am too far along to correct the intakes. To be honest this is one of those builds that may end up looking ok from a few feet away, but not great close up. As you will see from the pics below I have had decal woes, with both main fuselage decals ripping (I am using decals from a Grand Phoenix kit) and being a little too short, put it down to experience eh?!DSC_280-vi.jpgDSC_0277-vi.jpgDSC_0278-vi.jpg

Here's a pic of the finished kit, more in the gallery. It's a tail sitter so I may try and get some weight in the forward u/c bay and close the door as they seem to be seen in this config. Not my best effort but looks ok from a distance! Thanks for organising the GB!
