general melchett
Just a tad Crusty...I'd love to tell you what I'm working on ....but then I'd have to kill you and then myself.......modelling's a messy business, but someone's got to do it !! The masks arrived today, courtesy of Hannants. A bit disappointing as they need trimming to fit properly..usually I find that the Eduard masks fit well but these required a wee bit of surgery to look right. The windshield side windows being too large and the canopy rear sides slightly too long. Not a huge problem, just rim with a brand new blade, (I always use a cocktail stick to gently move them around to fit) but a bit surprising as they're not cheap. I also have the Montex ones but not over keen on their material, though at least they give you the inside and outside and are cheaper... Anyhoo now all fitted, Edited October 23, 2014 by general melchett
Navy Bird
Superb craftsmanship, General, but you've heard that before. So I'll just say what I used to back in the, em, 60s: Farm out. Gravy, man. Out of State! So about all this banter in-between the plastic - we don't need no Tailhook Convention, we've got Britmodeller! Cheers, Bill
general melchett
Cheers Bill, Good Lord, were you a hipster by any chance ?, you didn't imbide in chemically enhanced fun did you , wow, I also recall the far out days of the 'swinging sixties'.........distant memories of a rose tinted time where not a lot mattered and everything was either groovy, totally out there or way out.......including my academic achievements...! Ha, gotta agree, all the banter we need, right here on our BM'ing door step.....you now have permission to get back to that lovely Beaufort... general melchett
Crusty, it was mentioned in passing..but if you insist !!.......expanded mind eh...the only things I expanded were my lycra battle shorts and waist line !.... Tom, well though I was nor but a nibbet I lived/survived/floated through the sixties with barely a scratch....it was a far out time with some great boys own stuff going on...fast cars, powerful trains, big boats and planes, loose women, space races, proper racing drivers, Psychedelia, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Woodstock, mini skirts and hot pants, (the former usually led to the other !!), an Air Force to speak of, (rumour has that we've still got one but I'm not convinced), ditto Navy, even more groovy music which didn't have 'whoops' in the title, moon landings, (apparently)...and of course by far the most serious as many would have it...........England winning the World cup for the first and probably only time......ever. We also had massive overspending, inflation, US recession, Wilson, civil rights movement, acne, Cuba, Vietnam, Kennedy offed by the CIA...sorry, a grassy knoll !, etc, etc and and were constantly on the 'eve of destruction' but everyone was too spaced out to worry too much about the whole thing.......or so I was told....I spent most of it in a purple haze, nothing new there then ! Who invited the fish head?....lol..... Spike........they're everywhere maaan !
general melchett
Whilst closing up the gear bays ready for primer I noticed this on the starboard door !...strange raised area which isn't present on the other side. I can't find any reference to any such thing in any of the photos I have of the RAF beast but want to make sure it's not something that anyone is aware of fitted to some aircraft, (other than German or Italian versions of course) before I sand it off !.... Tomjw
I guess your sixties was a bit more involved than mine. I was pre-occupied with mobile female food dispensers and seeing what range of colours I could fire it out of the other end. That was it really... general melchett
Sorry Tom, you lost me there, mobile female food dispensers We called 'em dinner ladies back then.......not sure about firing them out of the end of anything...still, depends on which school you went to really..........my house master Bumfluff was always over reacting! Bill...excellent news re the chemical embrocation !...just something about the way you go about your modelling, it kind of resonates with me.........(from one former space cadet to another, I was a bit out there too...think Zaphod Beeblebrox listening to early Hawkwind crossbred/dressed with Beetlejuice on acid, you get the idea !!) Excellent bantering there General, not just a damn fine modeller,a world class banterer too!!:-D You're too kind Crusty........I'll take banterer any day ..........pass the Cyanoacrylate man, I'm feeling kinda wired..... The Crusty one
Tsh and hogwash man, take the compliment like a man, revell in the glory of your banterishment Sah! Can I just ask,I'm mainly a piston engined kinda guy but I think I need a few jets in my stash so far I've been drawn to the Harrier and I've always liked the F14,the A10 has caught my eye more than once, the Tornado is one of those like then don't like kinda planes so I'm undecided,so do you have a favourite jet? general melchett
Ah, the eternal 'curates egg' question...well like you it seems to take turns , I don't really have a favourite but I guess if I was pushed into a corner and had to answer then the short list would go along the lines....... Bombers, all three V-Bombers, TU-22 Blinder, B-58 Hustler, fighters, JA-37 Viggen and Lightning.....but then next week ! I have all of these as works in progress but never seem to get around to finishing them, which is odd really...... I've got a couple of 1/48th RAF WWII heavy bomber builds coming up soon for the BC sig which will be pretty involved as well as a few proposed AEW projects for our Project Cancelled sig, a few whirlycopters......so having a few irons in the fire helps to keep things fresh. As for your selection well personally I'd go for the Harrier, (new Kinetic FA.2 ?), but then I prefer the quirky stuff. The Tornado and Bucc are about as mainstream as I get to be honest..... Bet you wished you hadn't asked now..... Short answer ....no ! Melchie
The Crusty one
Ahhh cryptic banter there melchie!! Just have to get as many as possible then I can just pick the one I'm liking at the time!! rbeach84
Melchie, you should condense this topic into a book(let?) and call it 'Building the Revell 1/48 Tornado the RIGHT Way'... Awesome works... Regards, Robert
general melchett
Thanks fellas.....Crusty one, that's the way to do it...just don't have too many going at once as that way madness lies...ask me how I know !! Robert thanks, that may not be a bad idea as a lot of official reviews seem to miss the errors completely claiming the model to be the second coming ! As long as I can help those who wish to build a more accurate replica of the mighty Fin then I'll be happy with that..after all that's what this modelling malarkey is all about. Meanwhile, the run up to finishing stuff for Telford has meant things have slowed down a bit on this one but I have at least managed to prime the beast ready for the pre shading and first dark sea grey coat, (it took longer than expected as there were a lot of little seams to tidy up...).
