eng
Evening all, Just about ready to put the green onto both a GR.1 and a GR.3 Harrier from Airfix but wondered if I was right in thinking the GR.1 had a hard edged camo, whereas the GR.3 had a softer edge to the camo pattern. Am I talking nonsense? Your help would be grateful before the masking starts. Rgds, Eng
robvulcan
I would suggest you look at photos of the real thing as all airframes are unique. I'd go for a tight soft edge (blue tak) Edited August 26, 2014 by robvulcan
eng
Cool, thanks Rob, I've got it in my head that there was a hard edge up to a certain period in time there after a softer edge to the pattern. Don't ask where I came up with this theory, there's a lot goes on in my head I don't fully understand! As you suggest my plan was Blu-tak sausages for a tight but soft edge. Thanks for your input, Eng
robvulcan
Your right there are the two types used by raf but even on the same air frames (not a specific type but raf camo in general) you may find some had parts retouched and mixed hard soft edges and shades paint manufactures variations etc. If you look on the harrier type GB going on recently I posted a link to a German site (the chat section there) on harriers in raf Germany and there are lots of good photos of all types on there. There are plenty harrier people on here better able to help such as Bill Clark, Harry lime Enzo Matrix and Saintsphil, they should put you right Edited August 26, 2014 by robvulcan
AnonymousAA72
You could see both hard and soft edges even on the same airframe!. I'd suggest seeking out photo's of the aircraft your building (AB Pic's is an excellnt resource, as is the Gutersloh Spotters Club etc.,) and using blutac sausages as suggested by Rob... especially if building in 1/72nd.... Julien
A tip, use white tac not the blue stuff as I have had the blue tac leave a residue behind. Julien
