Hurricane STGB Chat

Recommended Posts

I think I'll have to join this if I may. I've just got the Airfix 1/24 (Debenhams were selling them at £30. Alas they appear to be out of stock now). I was going to wait until after doing my Stuka of the same scale before starting on the Hurri. But group builds are a good excuse to crack out kits so I'm in.

May you add my name to the list? I should be OK as there is no engine to detail!!!

All I have available in the stash is a 1/72 Mk IIc from Revell (not much, but...) and I want it built!

Thanks

JR.

New tool Hurri is out of stock at Airfix Command so do I go to Fleabay/Amazon or do my old Mk1 then

stock up on new ones...............decisions, decisions.

Yipes! I hope that's temporary, they can't have gone out of production already! That's a great kit, I hope Airfix doesn't start a "one prod. run and out" policy.

I don't think so Michael, the website says it'll inform you when they have stock.

Are you talking about the 1/48 kit? If so, it shouldn't be a problem if the original boxing is now OOP. Airfix will be releasing a Desert Air Force boxing in the new year. The parts will be identical to the original boxing, as you can already build a DAF Hurricane from the original box. I'm going to prove it in this GB. :D

and a tin of matt white to console myself

Well, it wasn't a total loss then!

The problem to hand though is I have a Mk1, I have narrowed my subject down to four machines and two of those are

unfortunately IIc's. Time to hit the books and look up the differences.

Ah. Rather a lot, I'm afraid. Longer nose, different spinner and prop and cannon rather than m.g. armament with consequently different gun bay doors and ejection chutes. Might want to stick to a Mk.I or try to get a Hasegawa IIc.

Next day delivery!!!!!!! you've got to open the box, decide on aftermarket and markings see if you have the right shade of faded raf dark green. And get some reference books all before April. And at some point decide it's unbuildable and buy another. Lol even my wife's panicking for you

was going to enter at least a 3 of hurris in this, not so sure now, decided I just had to build something prob driven as done nothing but jets recently, and the only real option in my LHS was a revell hurricane, so thats now being done as part of the made in Britain. Will try and at least get one revell in as a night fighter, nice easy build there.

Hi! Is there a list of rules for this group build or is that what the title is for? :D (a Hurricane and no other restrictions...)

Also, since this is the Hurricane STGB I thought to ask: does anyone know a store that sells a 1/72 Hasegawa Mk.I late (the one with the metal wings) for a reasonable price? I saw their Finnish air force kit on amazon, but it amounts to 40 pounds when the transport is added and since it comes from Japan I suppose I should also expect VAT and import fees so, I`m just guessing, another 10 pounds. It`s ... more than I would like to pay for it.

EDIT: added the scale.

That's nice. My wife couldn't care less. Hannants have a very fine mkIId I think I'll go for. No aftermarket though.

Don't know about the Hasegawa kit but Hannants have the Airfix 1/48 kit which is the metal wing version and, in my opinion, is a better kit than the Hasegawa one. And at 14.16 pounds it's hard to beat the price!

Hi, Michael! Thank you for the reply! I think the crucial piece of information that I managed to leave out is 1/72. I think Hasegawa is the only one that has it for this scale, but whenever I spot one I only see steep prices.

Btw, I currently have Airfix`s 1/72 Hurricane with fabric wings and intend to build that in Romanian colours. It looks like a very nice kit and can`t wait to start building it.
