Tiger331
Hi Folks, Title pretty much says it all. I'm trying to ascertain if a model kit of the Lotus Elan (1960s version) has ever been produced or is currently available. My cursory scan of the internet suggests there isn't one currently available just now and I suspect any older kit will probably attract collector prices but you never know…..maybe someone did a re-pop ? Thanks Mark
Fastcat
Hi Mark, In the larger scales the only one I know of is the Elan S3 in 1/24. There's one here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotus-Elan-S3-Gunze-Sangyo-1-24-/130968106046 Not cheap but if you want one.....................and not so bad considering todays prices. This one is the all plastic version. There was a mixed media version which usually goes for much more. I think there's also one in 1/32 in resin, meant for the slot car market - probably around the same price. There's also Elans in metal in 1/43, I think by SMTS. Again same price range or more. Hope this helps. Dave PS, the Gunze kit was the first I came across. You may find others. It's a nice kit. I built one some time ago as a commission. Only problem (apart from the sand colour) was getting a gloss finish on the paint. I used Halfords rattle can and it seemed to attack the plastic in some places. I've used it before with no problems so I'm guessing the kit plastic didn't like it. All came good in the end and it looked really nice. No sooner had I posted the original, I actually found this very kit by googling for Lotus Elan Model Kit images…..I then managed to track down one of the all plastic and two of the mixed-media kits on Ebay (but not, interestingly, including the one that you linked, which is cheaper and appears to be in better condition than the other). If I get one, it will be one of these rather than a smaller scale kit….I have to see if my mate is actually going to buy the real thing before I go ahead and invest in a model to go with it, anyway. Again, thanks for your advice and especially the link. Mark
Fastcat
OK Mark, The one I linked is in Spain but I'd not worry too much about that. I've sold a number of kits to Spanish buyers via eBay and they've been great. They're not especially rare but have been out of production for a while so as you've seen, prices reflect that. Best of luck, Dave In fact, there are loads around, some went for around a tenner. Also Kingkit has one for under £20. roymattblack
I have the Gunze kit and it's excellent. As an aside, I owned Colin Chapmans own Elan S3 coupe for three years, long ago. I even had the original green log book, signed by the man himself. A1 I sold it for £650. What would it be worth now??? Roy.
