Tim Moff
Right, got some paint on, anti-glare, Green nose paint and bottom! Green received another coat and will need masking/touching up when the cam goes on! And the PRU blue over the preshade....hard to get it just right over black pre-shade on white primer....lesson learned, use grey primer!!! Next the big and lil Sabre.... Well, my nozzle/tip broke on my Neo Iwata CN whilst cleaning, so a bit of a work/spares wait now before masking up for the DG/DSG! Hope all your builds are going well! Tim Moff
Well got the DSG on, didn't go on as well as paint has before....had some issues with the trigger, when released air continued to flow, causing a few runs. Not sure if the pre-shading has been covered enough.....looks ok on the 1/72, but the 1/48 I will have to re-assess before either dusting on another light coat or masking up with blue-tac and Tamiya before shooting some DG. And the two Sabres together Well, I got the RAF Sabre book, great read and some good info. There are a couple of pics of this subject which is helpful and seems to match the decals. Interestingly, a photo taken of 3 Sqn at Geilenkirchen, Germany, 1954 shows a pilot, Trevor Skellington wearing 'dyed black flying suit- a 3 trademark of 3 Sqn'....the pilot interestingly also holds a flying helmet, similar in colour to the emerald green 3 Sqn colour.......as my Sabre will be inflight, I will repaint the pilot in black overals and said green helmet!! Enjoy the weekend, happy modelling!
Tim Moff
After what Danny said about his, I will go for the DG....if the DSG is not quite enough I will re-mask and do again! Edited September 6, 2014 by Tim Moff
Tim Moff
Sabre all masked for the DG - on closer inspection looks as if some DSG areas not sprayed, will have to touch up!! Big and lil Sabre:
Tim Moff
Got some DG on: And together: Well next up, unmask, look at the grey areas for attention, touch up, grey on the tail fin, nav lights etc!

Tim Moff
Had a really enjoyable day modelling, done the big reveal, a few touch ups and lil issues, but in the most part really happy!! Just a blemish on the Port wing - be aware of bluetac, a bit of paintbuild up meant I had to lightly brush over...hopefully lose this in the Klear and varnish process...lesson learnt!! 3 Sqn Green Nose Pre shading does show through...more on the bottom - used really thinned paint with the Cam too, probably a layer too far!! Big and Lil Sabre - starting to look the part I hope!! Next then, final check and touch ups, a couple of Klear coats....gonna use Humbrol Klear rather than the Pledge, try to get a better finish for the panel lines.....Decals on, bit of Florys dark dirt, in the lines only - I think National Service saw lots of nice clean aircraft so weathering will be minimal....however I have seen pics of some right old states!! Now I have updated the pilot, black overalls, and 3 Sqn Green Helmet as per the reference in the RAF Sabre book!! So, I have done my best, paint jobs seem to be improving, really enjoying these Sabres!! Edited September 11, 2014 by Tim Moff

Tim Moff
Lol, fits and starts, I work 6 days then 6 days off.....just looking at the rear cam/pru demarcation line in the RAF Sabre book, may have to raise it....the painting instructions show it slightly lower...will test fit the decals!! well when I get going, im on a roll! Am looking at the bomber command GB, seem to learn lots from you guys!
Mozzy19
Blimey Tim, you're not hanging around are you? Nice work though. Must get back to mine, Sean
Tim Moff
Cheers Sean.....just remasked and painted the demarcation line to the rear, bought a bit higher, may leave the last line....but hey....need to properly look at the references, think I had the top of the Tamiya where the bottom should have been!!! Doh!!
Tim Moff
Ok, on with Decal session 1, a mammoth 4 hrs!! Interestingly the Eagle Strike set was designed for Hasegawa and Academy kits, there are some size issues with some stencils, so I used a mix of Academy and Eagle Strike. Seemed to go on fine, a couple silvering though, any tips? Have used Microset initially and then gone over with microsol as normal. The yellow nose band stripe was interesting with some trimming and I will need to touch over some green with black, however the decals match well with the paint, (thanks Mossi!) Also the warning triangle was in a different place on the reference pic shown, to on the Decal paperwork, so went with the pic in the RAF Sabre book. The black/red wing walkways a pain too, and some trimming will be needed on the major tail decal...all in all though its bring the beautiful Sabre alive! Hope your builds are going well....any tips on the silvering? Looking forward to the rest of the stencils, then I will be on the 1/72!! Silver Fox
Looking really smart now, like the scheme very much. You could try pricking the silvered part of the decal with a pin and then applying another coat of your decal solution. The solution will get under the decal by the pin hole and hopefully suck it down onto the surface. Try it on a less obvious one first.
sean
Looking good Tim. As Silver Fox has suggested, this is probably the best solution, Academy decals are usually pain to try and get down without any silvering. None the less, should be good when it's finished,, Sean

Tim Moff
Ok Phase 2 complete, another 4hrs, but also got a start on the 1/72....as discussed, some issues with the academy decals and also the Eagle Strike with silvering....had to remove one set of wing tank decals as they were just a mess....well, I will put some more MicroSol on before hopefully Klear tonight, may wait til I am on nights to Klear, give the decals a chance to settle.... Back to wotk for 6 days/nights, 4 days off then on my Hols to Sharm El Sheik!!
Tim Moff
Ok, so Decaling done....the trauma!! Given a shot of Humbrols Clear to seal them in and now laid up until I am off next. Finishing will be an attempt at Florys on the panel lines, and not too much else as the pictures all look fairly clean. Then I will look at a Satin finish....any recommendations for a good satin airbrush finish, as I only have matt Humbrol at the moment?
Silver Fox
I quite like Humbrol's Satin varnish in the rattle can. A few light passes and you are good to go.
