neron-fx
Hi all, Just a real quick question on decals. I have just finished applying some decals to my latest build and I'm now ready to continue weathering and get this kit on display! I am planning to do a lot of oil based work (Aubeuteng (spelling? ) oils with turps). Do I need to "seal in" the decals before continuing with the weathering? Or will the oils and turps damage or react with the decals if I don't? From what I have read, everybody seems to seal in with a clear gloss goat. This is fine, but I don't want a gloss surface when working with my oils (I'm not doing any washes). Will a clear flat coat suffice to seal the decals whilst continuing to give me a flat surface for oil work? Cheers, Rob
neron-fx
Apologies to the administrator. I have just realised that I have posted this question in the wrong place! Please could you move it for me? Sorry! Cheers, Rob Edited August 12, 2014 by neron-fx
pigsty
Any barrier coat should do it. Gloss is the same as matt in this respect, so long as you have complete coverage. I use matt when planning to weather with pastels. There's no need to worry about chemical damage, but physical damage is just as important to avoid and a matt coat works for that. neron-fx
Hi @pigsty Many thanks for your help. I shall matt coat it then before I start my oil works. I am wondering if I might be able to get away with just matt coating over the decals applied. Because I am a decal/modelling newbie, I forgot to gloss coat the kit before applying the decals anyway!
