OneEighthBit
This is probably too late to be of any help but just to clear up the TK-H/K Issue. The Stirling in your picture is TK-H and in fact the caption on the IWM website is wrong. Better source (and picture) available from the Australian War Memorial where it's clearly H and the caption confirms it. https://secure.awm.gov.au/collection/P02345.005/ Ironically I would have seen and added this to the post earlier if I hadn't been in London researching Stirling IV squadron codes. Ed Russell
The Stirling in your picture is TK-H and in fact the caption on the IWM website is wrong. Better source (and picture) available from the Australian War Memorial where it's clearly H and the caption confirms it. https://secure.awm.gov.au/collection/P02345.005/ The picture I showed in post 19 clearly indicates the letter is an H. The AWM changed the picture title on my recommendation - the IWM haven't got around to it yet. The squadron identification is based on the known service of the crew. I am not sure where your information is coming from but my reading of the AWM caption is that it is from 196 Squadron whose codes were 7T. 7T is quoted in many sources including Combat Codes. You should be wary of Wikipedia which lists 7T as 169 Sqn. Combat Codes lists 169 as JQ, then VI. TK is listed as 149 Sqn which did fly Stirlings but if you check the picture it's a Mk IV and 149 flew Mk III's. If your research comes up with a serial for "It's in the Bag" please let us know. Ed Russell
It's nearly finished.... a few coats of Testors Dullcoat.. The canopy framing was done by the same method (die cut decal stripes from Custom Hobby Decals) as the Blenheim I did last year. See post 13 here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234969089-bristol-blenheim-mk-iv-airfix-172-with-canopy-frame-tape-picture/ and it has turned out quite okay. It's easier than masking. The Italeri kit is quite well detailed and includes a much better effort at aileron control horns than the Sunderland. The inspirational picture is shown here - I might put it on a base using the Italeri ladder and chocks, a trolley acc (just visible in the pic and some snow. How on earth can i do snow? Similarly, there is a ventral whip aerial between the 8 and the wing root. Does anyone know where it originates? it looks like it comes from the bomb door.

Sorry Ed you are correct - a case of my fingers working faster than my brain. As you say, the photo is 7T-H, my mistake. On the off chance - does anyone know of any picture that exists that shows Stirling IV LK293 - X9 "C"? 06/24
Regarding snow, there's a wide assortment of scenic materials out there, some with ground glass (I think) for added sparkle. Woodland Scenics would seem like a good place to start. A friend, who takes model railway photos for a living, uses cream of tartar powder sprinkled on, says it's easy to clean up after taking a shoot, so might not be suitable for a permenant display? Ed Russell
a case of my fingers working faster than my brain. On the off chance - does anyone know of any picture that exists that shows Stirling IV LK293 - X9 "C"? Ha - we have all done that! No problem. You may need Tony O'Toole or 12jaguar (the Stirling Society man) to help with your question. I don't have any pics of that one.
Ed Russell
Last episode I made the base from plywood and MDF. The 'snow' is artists semi-iridescent acylic, put on with a home-made miniature roller. Given the brand I was surprised it didn't come out in tiny points...... sorry... (:>) The trolley acc is from the old Airfix ground crew set (polythene is almost impossible to paint and these things are really only good as casting masters). The chocks come with the kit and add a nice touch. They must have known I was going to do this scene..... I recomment the Italeri kit - I enjoyed building it.
