Very interesting.

But it is 50 quid...

wonder if they will do some exclusives of some of the other CA kits which are of particular British interest, eg Meteor family, Gannet, Venom's etc which are rather too expensive and/or hard to find these days, through £50 is about what Blenhiems go for on evilbay ?

Hannants did do a CA Meteor exclusive at one point though. F8 IIRC.

But, does this mean CA are coming out of retirement?

I've been after one of these for ages. Current prices on eBay recently have been £70 and upwards, so, relatively speaking, I guess these are better value - but certainly not cheap....

I agree that it is intriguing to see new Classic Airframes kits. I really like them, partly because they did lots of Fleet Air Arm types, and the resin was usually very nice. Not always the easiest to build, but worth the effort.

I also agree that to see the AEW Gannet would be great.

Nick.

Although £50 is above my budget,......does anybody know what the decal options for this Blenheim are,....apart from the box art? Are the other options new too and does it have the later, improved wheel well inserts?

Cheers

Tony

Save your money folks and put it towards the Airfix 1/48 scale kit - it will happen one day.

In the time being, go and raid that big stash and crack open a new kit that's been sitting there for all those years.

Cheers .. Dave.

Would be great if Classic Airframes would make a comeback. I think about two years ago they wanted to release a Hurricane Mk.1 detail/conversion set for the nose section. It looked great from the pics but I wonder if this ever made it to the market. The reason for the detail kit was IIRC that producing the kits was quite expensive and did not make enough profit. The molds still existed and it was not excluded that they would return some day. Many CA kits were on sales (some for months) and I gathered about 90% of their kits I wanted to have plus some which were simply too much reduced to resist. So my point is that they probably were too much limited run to reach a market huge enough to make enough money.

I wonder how Hannants can offer a special. Maybe there were left over sprues? I cannot imagine they really did a new injection run. Strange that only 10+ are listed of this kit.

Btw.: Would not be the first new 1:72 Airfix kit that comes in 1:48 a year later.

The CA Hurricane nose section has been seen on ebay US. As it was resin small runs are feasible.

Yes, some CA kits are still about, and some sold out fast.

Some of the CA kits are redone by other Czech companies, eg Spit VC by Special Hobby, Eduard and Italeri[!] and there are others, so many of the existing moulds are probably still viable, thought some may have worn out.

The Blenhiem I was also used by Finland and Romania, so this has some potential.

camper1 on the sale pages is listing 5 CA Blenhiems BTW.

cheers

Correction. MPM/Special Hobby was manufacturing the Spitfire Vc for CA. CA released only the USAAF boxing, Special Hobby released RAF/FAA ones. Same with the Buffalo, CA released the F2A-1 and Finnish B-239, Special Hobby released F2A-3 and B-339 versions. 2nd version Fokker XXI, the CA released only the Dutch Defender, SH released the Finns.

The same deal was apparently struck for the Anson, Fiat BR.20 and Baltimore. Not sure about Polikarpov I-152.

As far as I know, Special Hobby has not released any other CA kit under its own label.

2nd version Defiant re-release would be nice. And CR-32. And the Duck. And...

"2nd version Defiant release would be nice. And CR-32. And the Duck. And..."

Actually, there was a second version of the Defiant (#471 and 481), completely retooled and much more accurate than the first release (#404). Ditto with the CR-32 which was first released as #414, but - save for the wings - completely retooled as #4106 and 4107. Not aware of any reworked J2F, though.

Well, I felt compelled to buy one before they go out of stock, having always had a fondness for the mark 1. Hopefully this will be the second version of the kit with the variuous corrections that the original issue required.I noticed Troy's suggestion that Camper1 had a few for sale but when I checked his sale thread there were none so I must have missed that! I wonder how many Hannants have and how they got hold of them? They may be re-pops, especialy in view of their relationship with MPM on various projects but then they might be bankrupt stock hoovered up from somewhere but I see the box top has the Hannants lettering on it. As Richard in NZ has said - I wonder what markings will be included and will Hannants now do a 1/48th version of their recent 1/72nd sheet for the Airfix kit? I wouldn't be surprised. It amused me that they have immediately sold out of Barracuda wheels and Montex masks! Wonder how long Hannants had those kicking around!!

Special Hobby is to re-release very soon the 1/48th Classic Airframes Supermarine Walrus Mk.I kit in limited editions.

When I look at how the hobby recovered from the financial crisis (see link) then maybe the Blenheim is a first test for CA.

Rene

hi

I often wonder if ithe model market did crash, airfix went under in 2006.

and the punters for buying model kits were probably mid to late age modellers with secure jobs/income.

But then again i could be wrong ?

Cheers

Jerry

I received mine today and it includes the improved resin parts of the later release but the decals arent that exciting and I think they may be the first release sheet as it has PT*F on it?
