eslu2011 Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) Hi all, Apologies if this is photo heavy... I finished this earlier this summer. Pretty straight forward OOB build. Literally glued the whole thing together, sprayed it silver, then hand painted the suspension arms and any other small details. The decals were nice and thick and went on a treat. Not 100% happy with the colour as the real thing looks more like a mirror finish than silver but short of MF'ing it I'm not sure how i'd be able to recreate that finish. Not much else to say about it, any questions just ask! (I know I messed up on the tyre logo's...) Here's some shots of it with the Merc from the same year: Edited August 12, 2014 by eslu2011 2
eslu2011 Posted August 6, 2014 Author Posted August 6, 2014 Just realised I incorrectly titled this as the MP4/27 when it is obviously the mp4/25. Not sure how to change this so if it's possible could someone let me know? Cheers
eslu2011 Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 I used a rattle can from Halfords, Mercedes Benz Brilliant Silver.
Homerbronco Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Nice job!, am looking at doing the dual set MP4-25 next.
caterhamnut Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Nice - which kits are these? (Merc as well)
roymattblack Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I know I've posted this before, but BMF really isn't a hassle on this kit. Your finish really is lovely. A great build of a nice kit. If you ever fancy doing another or similar, give MF a try. You'll find my Mc Laren thread here somewhere. I'm not posting any pics as I'm not trying to hijack your build. A really lovely result. Roy.
eslu2011 Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Thanks, both kits are Revell 1-24. Their newer f1 kits go together really nicely. Roy: please go ahead and post pics if you have the time. I have seen your thread and it really takes the McLaren kit to the next level. I got the box set version of this so still have Jensons car to make and I plan on going the bmf route.
roymattblack Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) Okey dokey - for the benefit of BMF'ing these models. Apply the BMF in small panel-sized pieces, burnish down so that it is flat and smooth, but don't burnish hard just yet. Knew knife blade, and trim around the panel. Keep going, panel at a time until the whole car is covered. THEN burnish it all down with cotton buds, toothpick in the panel lines, then buff with a 'yellow' duster.... It's very slow, a bit tedious, but looks good when finished. I did my little Mustang (my ONLY 'plane..) the same way. Apologies for the naff pictures, but I only had a dodgy little pocket camera back then... Roy. Edited October 14, 2015 by roymattblack
roymattblack Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 (edited) BMF - Bare Metal Foil. An extremely thin sheet of self adhesive real metal. (Aluminium in the case here) At least half the thickness of kitchen foil - possibly even less. Very flexible, goes around compound curves if you're careful. Looks like real metal because it is real metal. Most on-line hobby shops sell it, or Ebay. Around £7 for a sheet 250mm x 120mm. Lots of colours/finishes available. Chrome frequently used on model cars. Roy. Edited October 14, 2015 by roymattblack
