F-32
It was great seeing the Whirlwind, I didn't realise it was still airworthy. Nice catch on the Huey too, that's one that keeps getting away from me year after year!
Silver Fox
I see they got the RN Merlin working, shame it was u/s for the Saturday at least. I hadn't realised the Whirlwind was a flyer, I thought she was the one from Doncaster Aeroventure and had come on the back of a lorry. Really sorry I missed her. Thank you for posting. . bentwaters81tfw
I thought there were no airworthy Whirlwind rotor blades. How did they get round that?
Paul J
I had too had no idea there were any Whirlys still airworthy!
VulcanXH558
A few photos of the only airworthy Whirlwind, anywhere in the world, XJ729 (G-BVGE). I took these photos at Weston Air Festival a couple of weeks back. Initially I thought it had been lorried in from the helicopter museum in Weston, but no she had flown in the night before. I chatted to the two crew and the pilot (ex-army engineer) said to me that it had taken a hell of a lot of paperwork to get her back in the air, and that she is based in the Crewkerne and is mainly flown around the west country. She hasn't been flying that long. Chris Edited July 13, 2014 by VulcanXH558
bentwaters81tfw
Is this the one that used to be in N Ireland in a blue and white scheme? That was the last one to fly.
VulcanXH558
It probably is, it's CAA registration history shows that the previous owner was from County Westmeath, the Republic Of Ireland. It's civilian registration is G-BVGE Chris
