Hi guys, don,t know if anyone can help.Over on the D-Day GB I am modelling a hanomag with the green/brown mottle over a

the ohcre/yellow base coat, having a very basic starter airbrush which is fine for base coating on my usual 1/72 aircraft I have

to rely on hand painting said mottling.Does anyone have any suggestions(sponge, mask etc) as an alternative to just solid

paint "dots" which never seem to look great when done?

If you want a simple mottle then just cut out some mottle shaped holes in a piece of card and use it as a stencil mask with your airbrush, gives a nice soft edge to the mottle if you only have a basic airbrush.

You could do as I did for many years and use a cut down brush and just 'dry brush' the mottle and squiggles on. Wipe most of the green or brown off and then sort of wiggle and dapple it on in the places you want. As the paint dries on the brush go over the splotches and you can get a softer, more 'airbrushed' look at the edges of the mottle.

Does any of that make sense?

It used to work a treat for me on 1/72 Luftwaffe aircraft and German tanks to get a more in scale effect.

I wish I had some examples to post but all the little tanks and planes I did were either sold or ended up in my son's toy box..

Not sure if that's any help but I guess you can practice on the proverbial 'blank piece of card'. ^_^
