tangerine_sedge
Guys, I'm going to tankfest for the first time this weekend and wondered if anyone can advise me which lens(es) to take? I'm assuming that most of the action in the arena is fairly close so a 200mm lens will be about the right length. Will I need anything longer? I have a 400 too, but I'm thinking that will be too long and I'll just be carting it around for no benefit! I'll be taking a 17-40 and a 24-80, so thats the closer/static stuff catered for. Regards....
Panzer Vor!!!
A tip I will give you is go stand BY THE WALL near the arena , you can put your bag on it but take a position early it gets crowded I always stood near the bottom right corner , just where the vehicles turn You can get pics of them coming towards you directly in front and going away got some brill pics over the years I stopped going as its the same vehicles every year
tangerine_sedge
Thanks for the advice. How far away are the tanks at that point?
Panzer Vor!!!
At a rough guess 30 to 40 feet mebbe less but that's a rough guess
Jinxman
hi, Agree with Panzer Vor!!! about the wall - grab a spot whilst you have a chance. Last time I was there I used a 200-400mm zoom which worked ok. cheers

tangerine_sedge
Finally got around to uploading some pics to photo bucket, here you go! Canon 5d and 200mm f2.8, a little more reach would have been good, so maybe next time I'll take the 400 and stand on the bank! I loved the day, but I'll probably go every other year, as I can't see the tanks changing very often...
