Hi,

this will be my second entry and I reall yhope I can finish it in time (would be the first time I finish two kits in one GB but hey - this should be workable): My Eduard boxing of the 1:48 Tempest was a special offer by A2Zee and included Alley Cat resin pieces like wheels and a corrected tail:

I will build it as Roland P. Beamonts Tempest.

Edit: Forgot to list - the kit canopy will be replaced with the Rob Taurus vacuformed canopy.

HI Rene

Neat choice, a few points. the Alleycat wheels are not very good, though for Beamont's Tempest R-B, you will need some 5 spoke wheels, Ultracast do some Typhoon ones which might be a bit thick but are probably your best bet.

I have a part done Tempest, I thinned the wing, which while dull, really makes a difference, plus a few other tweaks, detailed here, most pics on page 2.

Note, for wheel wells, the Tempest site has a few Tempest walkrounds, but some of them are missing various pipes and cables, specifically the RAF Hendon planes.

But, LA607 has all these gubbins still in place, so that's the one to use for reference

Hi and thanks for the support. Yes Barracuda has recently added wheels for the Tempest. I think I will order them tomorrow along with some other wheels they added the last 6 months.

I heard about the thick wing isue and thought I make it easy for me and forget about it. But now I think this makes sense...

Untill now not much happend - I just washed the resin pieces and had a closer look on what is ahead. :crosseyed:

Edit: I wonder about the cockpit colour... I suppose Eduard got it wrong in the instruction and from another topic here I recall that some Tempests were over-all black in the cockpit (instrument panel, side consoles, seat and framework etc) others were over-all black from canopy untill the bottom edge of the instrument panel. I recall pictures with the frames and seat in silver and the rest in "interior green" (as opposed to Barlley grey which Eduard states here)? And other pictures were frames and seat are also "interiour green". Trouble is I think all pictures show restored aircrafts so I cannot be 100% sure this is correct. Any ideas?

I started working on the wing. Better to get the boring stuff done first. As we have nice weather at the moment I took the wing and sanding stick to work and went outside in lunchtime. The good thing at working in the middle of nowhere is there are some fields which are quite nice to sit in, have lunch and sanding :-) It is less boring when it is not done over the kitchen sink or in the man cave.

The wheelwell openings were thinned with a scalpel (the right is thinned the left not yet):

The holes for the shell ejection will be opened soon.

Then I sanded the outside of the wings and fuselage with 1000 grid paper to dull it a bit - as I have the funny idea to rivet it. In this case I will draw lines with a pencil first (were the rivet lines will be), which will not work on the glossy plastic surface but on the now dull one. The only problem is I have no reference drawings but only pictures of a rivited Tempest from Eduard side and pics of the new Airfix kit.

I decided to go with RAF interior green and black for the interior and silver seat - unless someone can give be other information. I think painting will be done on Sunday.

Edit: Photobucket drives me crazy: The orientation of my pics is horizontal for both original files AND in The photobucket libary but when posed here one is suddenly vertical :mental:

Edit 2: Some days later the orientation of the pics is suddenly correct. :banghead:

OK some work done on the cockpit:

I need to add the PE to the left side wall, instrument panel and stick. Then a bit of weathering and chipping, touching up etc. Maybe I find some time this evening to finish the cockpit.

Progress slowed down a bit last week, but now all PE parts for the cockpit and wheel well are in place. Next step will be ading some plumbing inside the wheelwells and some wetahering to the cockpit before I can close up the fuselage and wings. The PE included is really nice and makes quite a difference to the sometimes rather basic kit parts.

Only painted the radiator parts yesterday and improved the tail wheel well a bit by makeing the PE part which is to be used with the kits IP parts fit. it took a while but was rather easy to do as the resin can be cut quite easily with a scalpel blade:

Haha - I already started the plumbing yesterday night (using your links on page 1 - thanks!). I have no pics taken but these will follow soon. The etched triangles had to be removed again - I just could not get the wire I used through them. In the end I replaced them with wire. I have to admitt that plumbing the thing is more work than I expected and I suppose I will have to spend two more evenings on this.

If accuracy is yr thing, avoid the drop tanks!

the real thing has a clear plastic fairing, which has been tricky to reproduce, the Budzik build cast them in clear resin.

This is the sort of thing you actually want aftermarket for!

All the pics I have seen of Beamont's plane and the 3sq ones at the same time do not show tanks.... as it's quite specialist I don't know if they were is service around D-Day. this is a Chris Thomas question for a proper answer.

.... as well as a set of decent wheel wells, though it's not too hard to add the piping, just tricky!

I part did my one before my plastic hacking got derailed into a box...#

You may find it easier to follow the simplfied version as show in the Budzik build....

Actually I like the look of the Tempest without tanks much more - so I will leave them off. Regarding the wheel well I will see how much I can recreate before I start running amok :-)

Yesterday was not my day for detail work. I knocked everything over which was in my proximity... Hope to perform better today.

Maybee I am wrong but wasn't Richard Beaumont's Tempest a early version with the "old"guns during D-Day?!

These were sticking a little bit out of the wings?!
