Mirage 2000C Heller "Last Flight" EC 1/12 Cambresis 1/48 - decals!

Recommended Posts

very long awaited decals came out last week! :) :)

so had to start a Mirage 2000 immediately!

basic Heller kit with hopefully all the necessary updates ;)

it will be posed as in flight, with engine in military power, and slats deployed.

I will have to find a solution on how to mount it to a base! - suggestions welcome!!!

renaissance flight (rflight) Mirage 2000 update resin parts (will finally not use this very nice seat due to the harness being part of the casting as well... if you want to seat a pilot not ideal!)

how she looks now:

as you can see, I had to cut the slats again, no chance to get a usefull fit..... you never stop learning! (so the other way round it is!)

some update finally

I was occupied a tiny bit by making the PJ Productions pilot fit the small cockpit and giving the pilot a kind of flying position

see for your self..

it misses some essential body parts for the time being though ;)

I believe the pilot only needs a dark wash. For in-flight position check this out: http://www.scalespot.com/reference/stands/stand.htm

Thanks LT Motta,

yes a wash is definitely an option and maybe a good idea! At the moment Mr pilote is nufortunately trapped below the canopy for the time being! -so for at least the whole painting process!

Thanks for your link, many good ideas!

I opted some time ago for a thin spoke though the resin engine. will show it soon!

ready for painting?

IMG_1104_1_1_zpscaa79fb2.jpg

will start with a black satin coat to check the imperfections... :police:

yeah, painting it gloss black DID show some problem areas..

so back again to the sanding process!

maybe I should use something else for small filling than super glue.... but I never get a smooth finish with putty.. any suggestions?

IMG_1228_1_1_zps0eda8f85.jpg

IMG_1229_1_1_zps41e30728.jpg

hope that process will not repeat itself too many times! ;)

I've started using this stuff. Cleans up with water so you don't have to damage panel lines with sanding. Also dries rock rock hard (water will dissolve it if you decide to redo an area after drying) and adheres to plastic very well. Just a wet cotton bud is usually enough to do the job.

Keep at it, I'm looking to forward to seeing it done :)

Thanks for the putty tip, and I not gonna give up just yet ;)

apart from that, sanding you get to know your model better.... a lot better!

looking good in black by the way! (Dassault should have painted one black.....)

here again with some update:

Mirgre ready for paint job :)

radar nose is already grey, it and the ECM on the tail were not painted on the real aircraft

IMG_1379_1_1_zps29a1d167.jpg

Syhart decals include vinyl masks for the gold and grey/black parts, and offers to options to mask the gold, or to mask the grey. :) :)

I decided to to the paint the degrading grey to black before, as I am not sure how the mask will behave on the delicate gold...

so the degrading color ws applied starting on the black base with grey in the front, adding more and more black to the color while going o the tail

here a better pic:
