Speedman
Sorry I'm late to the party but I've been very busy building a stupid amount kits for another group Matador... GR7

Murdo
Aaah, nice! The GR7 is a lovely kit. I'm just about to finish one.
Speedman
Aaah, nice! The GR7 is a lovely kit. It certainly is! I've ploughed through the cockpit assembly and painting, painted the intakes and fan, fitted the inserts to the wings, glued the fuselages together and made the drop tanks.
Dazzio
Nice! I will be joining in later in the week with my Harriers (using these kits plus extras). I will be watching how you progress with your build Speedman, also stealing tips So how many Harriers are you going to build for this GB?? Kind Regards Dazz
Speedman
Don't worry, I'm not going to go mental with this one
Speedman
A little bit of Mr Surfacer, a light sanding and a rescribe finished the fuselages. After that I popped on the noses and tail caps.
xffw45343tg
As Phil pointed out on another thread, don't forget that the cooling intake on the base of the fin is shorter on the GR than the 8B. Looking good though.
SaintsPhil
Good spot, I'd not noticed that one these kits before. Has the GR got the flare pack hump behind the airbrake?
Speedman
As Phil pointed out on another thread, don't forget that the cooling intake on the base of the fin is shorter on the GR than the 8B. Looking good though. Cheers for that. Corrected Good spot, I'd not noticed that one these kits before. Has the GR got the flare pack hump behind the airbrake? Err... No. But it will! Main assembly is complete and I've carved out the auxiliary intake doors. Which was fun
xffw45343tg
Fab work on the auxiliary intake doors and fin. Something looks a little odd about the kit's instrument shroud. It may be that it is just adjusted to fit with the tiny screen which I would imagine has to be of greater than scale thickness because it is so tiny, but it seems a little high to me (meaning that there would be no space for the HUD) and sweeps forward a bit too much. In ther real thing, there's a little plate on the aft end of the shroud that acts as a shade for the up front controller (that block with all the keys on in below the HUD) and maybe Revell have just faired the shroud evenly to this point. See here... Might only be the camera angle and things are so miniscule in this scale that I'm not suggesting that you put a tonne of effort into something so insignificant. Just an observation. Cookenbacher
I can't believe you're doing all of this in 1/144th - amazing workmanship going on here.
Jabba
Another person who makes very good models in very small scales, that I could not achieve in 1/48th. Keep up the good work and well done.
Speedman
Cheers guys Something looks a little odd about the kit's instrument shroud. See here... I think it's more to do with the angle, with the canopy on there's more than enough room for a HUD. As for the shroud, they have faired it evenly. As much as I'm tempted to modify it, (I will be adding rudimentary HUDs) any detail will be all but lost due to distortion once the canopy is in place. I've modified the refuelling probe. (I don't know what Revell were thinking!) Because I've only found one photo out of hundreds of a Matador carrying a gun pack, it's obvious that it's not commonly used so I've made a set of LIDs as replacements. Modified probe, original at the top.

xffw45343tg
Just reminded myself quite how small 1:144 is... your last few pictures come up at about 2.5 x bigger than the kit parts on my screen. Whoah! Excellent modelling, sir!
Speedman
Thanks guys I've been neglecting these while completing a trio of 1/144 Tomcats for another group, but now they're finished I've been able to titivate the Harriers. First up, the Matador... The kit comes with decals to represent the dorsal dispensers so I used these as a guide to make some "3D" ones. I'll still be using the decals but laying them over the top. And I've added a few Pepsi can details. On to the GR7... Ventral dispenser. More little Pepsi can bits. I also reduced and re-profiled the intakes as the kit parts are for the AV-8B. And I've filled and sanded the nasty seam top and bottom of the intakes on both kits.
Cookenbacher
Who needs PE when you can just cool off with a pepsi? Amazing detail work! Also enjoyed your F-14 trio - you make quite an ambassador for 1/144th scale.
Speedman
I've fitted the kit undercarriage doors. Unfortunately they don't supply any main doors so I've made some from 10 thou card and I've added the air dam. Matador. GR7.
xffw45343tg
Nose doors looking a little long there. Have you accounted for the small door attached to the leg itself? Though it's impossibly small in this scale, the nose doors have a visible "bump" where they cover the tyre in its retracted position. Keep up the good work though! Speedman
Yeah, I know about the bump, the extra long doors (and I did count the small door) are part of a cunning plan
xffw45343tg
A cunning plan eh? Doesn't involve a slug balancer does it?
