MIKE_HUSKY
Hi GuysNow I'm completed my last model, a F4U-1 Corsair in 1/48 scale from Tamiya. I have a simply question: what colour is the antenna wire? In some war time photos it's in light colour, in others in dark colour. Please if possible suggest me the correct colour? Thank you so much ByeMike
Jennings Heilig
I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist over a specific color of wire for any aircraft radio antenna. I've seen real ones ranging from bright silver to black, and everything in between. It's all going to depend on what airplane, when, where, phase of the moon, color of money, etc, etc.
Edgar
Pre-war U.K. aerials were copper, but changed to stainless steel at war's start, apparently due to the former's lack of strength; maybe the U.S. did similar. Edgar
greatgonzo
Navy aircraft used a braided antenna wire sometimes made of a phosphor bronze and could also have a steel cord inside for additional strength. Copper in colour then.
MIKE_HUSKY
Hi guys, thank you so much for response, all interesting. After your instructions I have paint the antenna wire in medium dark colour, because I think the weather make this effect.Soon I hope to insert some photos.Thank youMike
