Stashaholic Steve
Have read conflicting reports about whether or not the Soviets used IS-3s against the Japanese at the very end of WWII. Do we know for sure one way or the other?
Panzer Vor!!!
Ive seen pics of turrets dug in to make pillboxes but thats was when the tanks were retired I didn't think they were used as T34/85s were adequate against what fewJapanesetanks their were
Step
There was possibly one regiment deployed in Manchuria but theres conflicting reports on it to be fair they could well have been late IS-2's with the sloped rather than stepped nose and a test fit of the IS-3 turret , from memory they have the same turret ring. KRK4m
Are there any photos of the IS-2 and ISU-152 from this Operation "August Storm" available? Cheers Michael
Kingsman
I suspect not as Japan had no armour or AT weapons worthy of deploying heavy tanks. Manchuria was the only operational use of the late model M4A2E8 76mm Sherman, which was more than a match for anything the Japanese had there. It is generally accepted that the debut of the IS-3 was the Berlin victory parade, where it caused something of a stir - borderline panic - among Russia's former allies.
