Airfix 1/72 F-86 Sabre in Flight

Recommended Posts

Here is my go at Airfix's 1/72 North American F-86 Sabre. Its an OOB apart from the pilot which is resin. This was my first go at using metalizer paint which was from Mr Hobby ( I will give Alclad ago next time to see what that is like) and bending acrylic rod which I used to make the stand.

Any way here are a few photo's

Thanks everybody for the kind comments. It's an excellent kit of a classic aircraft.

MPaul the stand is a piece of routed oak and 5mm acrylic rod. I drilled the hole using a 5mm wood bit and I was going to super glue the rod in the hole but it was such a good fit I didn't have to. It's just pushed in. The rod cost about £1.50 (approx) and the wood was scrap. The good thing about the piece of oak is that it's heavier than say pine and the extra weight makes the base more substantial for the size if that makes sense.

I hope this helps.

I really like this - great model which looks very dynamic on the base - very clever.

Great build and finish. The pose really shows off the Sabre's efficient looking lines. A classic example of if 'it looks right...'

Thanks again to everyone for the kind comments. Meatbox you are right if it looks it will fly right. I saw the F86 fly at Duxford and at Sunderland a few years ago and what a sight it is.
