John the Yank
Still deciding whether to keep or re-do the Det cord. Not 100% accurate and still deciding whether it looks OK or not. Not a lot of options, I have the Eduard PE and used only 1 of Orion vinyl det cords for the Harrier II modified. I think I can get it a little closer to the earlier SHAR style MDC by modifying the other one. Any thoughts? John
SaintsPhil
You could try fuse wire bent to shape over a scale plan? Although I'd be happy with what you've got!
Biggles87
I use CA mixed with talc or straight CA. John You're not related to Alan Hall are you? Great job! You'd better finish it quickly though just in case one of the mainstream manufacturers does produce a state of the art Shar!
John the Yank
You could try fuse wire bent to shape over a scale plan? Although I'd be happy with what you've got! Never thought of that, any scale drawings of the canopy with Det cord available. I have the fuse wire, Hmmmmm..... John

John the Yank
This is what I have to go with. After trying the Eduard PE & Hobby Decal PE MDC, I had no joy. I vacuformed the canopy and used the Flying Leatherneck vinyl MDC. I modified it to look as close as possible to the FRS.1 style, obviously not 100% but I can live with this one. The Flying Leatherneck vinyl is very forgiving and easy to work with, it can be repositioned and it still sticks. There is extra material that can be used to finish framing the canopy too. I wish some one would expand the range of MDC's using this material, PE sucks for this application or I just have no luck with it. Tomjw
Your MDC looks pretty good to me. I would certainly be happy with it. Tom.
John the Yank
Glossed over EDSG, HU 123 & GUNZE 333 topside, HU 123 Lightened with white, & GUNZE 333 lower side. Subtle variations should show up better after final finish is applied. What was the color of the speed tape applied over XZ457 camera port? I can not tell from the pic in the Harrier SIG pic if it was aluminum color or another color? John
heloman1
Coming along nicely, great work with the det cord, as you say PE sucks. I do like the green cannon pods. Colin
LT Motta
Here is what I've done: First attempt using a 0.5mm wire: then using 0.3mm wire: Final look:
John the Yank
Nice FA.2 and Det. Cord. I tried bending some thin wire to shape, but I gave up. I was useless. I am going to stick with my vac'd canopy and vinyl representation. Have you noticed the flow flaw in 1/48 Airfix Harrier canopies? It is a straight hairline fracture on the top. Do not wipe the canopy with Naptha (Lighter Fluid), it will accentuate the fracture. I vac'd the canopy from my FA.2 kit and found this out when cleaning the original canopy. Just an FYI IMHO: I think the Airfix canopy's are a little flat on the sides and should have a slightly blown curvature. Others may know more. LT Motta
I haven't notice that fracture. But mine had some scratches so I sanded, buffed and polished them and then dipped the canopy in Future. About the Airfix canopies shape... To be honest with you... I don't know. I am not a specialist in Harriers, I just love them because IMHO they are the most incredible aircraft ever! I've fixed all flaws that are described on the Harrier SIG website, if is not written there I haven't fixed or noticed it.
John the Yank
Last update for a couple weeks, going on vacation. Started decaling, the hard ones first, others should be easy. Painted lots of little details on and off the airframe, getting there slow but sure. John

John the Yank
XZ457 all marked up, now to bring it alive and add all the fiddly bits. I can see light at the end of the tunnel. This is a great tune-up for Kinetics FA.2. John
