1/48 Monofix SHAR FRS.1

Recommended Posts

Finished the pit and getting ready to close the nose section, scribed and added missing details to the external surfaces. I have to scribe and do the details to the Monogram back half before I join it up and work the intakes. The pit should look the business under the canopy.

Finished the Airfix SHAR nose, a few details to add after the fuselage join up on the rear deck, antennaes, and the breakables. Next up is to rescribe the Monogram fuselage and add SHAR details. Criticism welcome.

After I prime the aircraft, I plan on painting the camera port, then fit some clear plastic in the port. Get it flush and polish it out, then use liquid mask before final painting and finishing. At least that is the plan.

Finished scribing the fuselage, (2 evenings work) wet sanded, and 3200 micromeshed. I like to attend to the overscribes now with CA and clean out the detail after sanding the CA. I am amazed at how well formed these older kits are and wonder if the projected Kinetic Harriers will measure up. Thanks for the encouragement.....now I need the SB A-4B conversion for an Argentinian Skyhawk.

The Airfix nose fitted to the Monogram fuselage, not terribly difficult just a little care required to square up due to the small mating areas. Never-the-less here are the results, starting to look like a Sea Harrier!

Finished detailing nose vent, tail stinger vents & RCV's. Installed the speed brake bay & cut the speed brake to match the Airfix SHAR's smaller brake (Not Shown)

The Pavla resin intakes are a near perfect fit, no sanding only a little seam blending.

The Airfix SHAR vertical tail with Pavla rudder, rescribed and reinforcement installed for alignment. Needs a little Mr. Dissolved Putty on the fuselage joint after the glue cures. That is all the major cross-kitting to make an early Sea Harrier, it measures up darn near dead nuts to the drawings in SAM Sea Harrier book. I'm pleased to say this is painless so far and the Pavla resin upgrade parts fit like it was made for this.

Mounted the upper wing and really had to work it to get a decent fit. You can see some styrene pieces to fill gaps and some CA to level some areas. I got good alignment and anhedral on the wings. I guess the trick with these older kits is to mount the upper or lower single piece wing then work the other wing sections, it will eliminate a lot of filler and sanding. Tricked out the APU inlet with screen mesh and boxed the outlet.

The last major obstacle to tackle is the lower wings, there are some big gaps where they mate to the fuselage. I am going to glue styrene stock to the mating ends until I get that almost perfect fit and finish with MS500. First they need re-scribed.

WOW!

We have a "super serious" thread here!

I have the same kits and the same idea in my mind... so I'm saving you thread for future references!

Superb job!!!

To get a clean fit of the lower wing will take some shimming, shoring, and some stip styrene. Use some CA with talc on the wing root leading edges and a clean fit without putty can be obtained, just a little Gunze MS.

Adding missing details and improving existing surface details now, still have to fabricate new wing fences then on to the "Elephant Ears".
