Peter Marshall
Well it's time for a big one - a Tamiya 1/32nd F-4E Phantom with some extras: Rhinomodels Seamless intakes - with free Resin Wheels Avionix Cockpit set Master Pitot tubes Eduard Placards Eduard stencil masks - my personal favorite, as it avoids decal stencils :-) Quickboost FOD Covers - probably just use them for masking when painting Work starts with the major surgery - fitting the intakes. Marked the area that needs removing Then work with a razor saw and sanding sticks and repeated dry fitting and the intakes are fitted. Then work on the cockpit - once again lots of sanding and removing a section of the end and the middle section. The pit is only blu-tac in place to test the fit, but looks good so far. Peter Marshall
Yes - my CAM Pro decals have arrived, so it will most likely be "Arkansas Traveller II", 469th TFS, 388th TFW, Korat, RTAFB, Thailand, 1970 One of the few Phantoms with WWII kill markings on it. Jens Well none of the reviews mention any issues with that set, and they *look* to match the single photo i've ( the same kill markings and intake art ) seen so I won't let it bother me, unless anyone can find any more photos for "Serial No. 67-0288, 469th TFS, 388th TFW, Korat, RTAFB, Thailand, 1970". It will be a while before I get to them even with next week on holiday. Peter
Jens
Fair enough. Very few reviews actually comment on accuracy - especially on sites depending on getting kits, decals and accessories from suppliers. Here you can find pictures of 67-0288: E 67-0288 35 70-288 JV 388 TFW 469 TFS SEA The 388th Tactical Fighter Wing - at Korat Royal Thai Air Force Base 1972 (Don Logan) (Schiffer). Thanks a lot for that - the only one i've got of that lot is the bottom book, which is the photo i'd compared the decals to - the only obvious difference is the photo shows it without tail codes and the green band at the top of the fin, though apparently they were added later. I will see how it looks once paint is on, as it would be different to have one with no tail codes, though I do quite like the spash of lighter green the band gives. Neil AS
This is going to be one to follow with interest nice start, two observations though . 1.Why seamless intake's and intake covers? 2. You may need to clear more bench space, it's one big model. All the best with it Peter I'm sure you'll do it justice.
Spookytooth
One of my favourite planes. This kit build I will have to follow. Simon.
Peter Marshall
This is going to be one to follow with interest nice start, two observations though . 1.Why seamless intake's and intake covers? Simple - bought the FOD covers before I found anywhere that had any Seamless intakes. Don't worry can use the Covers to mask the intakes when painting - a truly baldrick worthy cunning plan. Peter Marshall
Today's work - starting by fixing a mistake in the intakes. I fitted the intakes level with the fuselage, which when I test fitted the lower fuselage didn't fit with the intakes being too far back. So out with the superglue debonder, and this time refitted the intakes with the splitter plates in place which helps. When test fitted a there is still a gap at the bottom, but it will be simple to fill once everything is fitted. Then constructing the instrument panels, using the resin IP with kit clear parts and decal. The Avionix pit is very nicely cast with a recess for the kit clear parts Cleaned up all of the main pit resin parts, and masked off the clear IP parts with Vallejo liquid mask Then alclad black primer over the top of everything While I had the primer in the airbrush, I sprayed some over the join for the intakes where I'd had to use a little filler. Peter Marshall
Today's work - first finishing off the pit Front RIO Then fitted to the fuselage - not too bad, though the sidewalls don't quite meet the side rails so I had to fill a little Then the afterburners And finally for the day fitted the stabilators - still needs the screws tightening some more Peter
