Antoine
Hello, I'm looking for informations about Hurry II(c?) BD857 HP°P. The aircraft from 247 sqn RAF, flown by Sgt Murphy RNZAF was lost on 28th august 1941 near Morlaix, Finistère, Britanny, certainly on an intruder mission on Morlaix airfleld. Murphy survived but made POW. Questions are: IIb or IIc? Batch says hurry only, but nearest batches shows only IIb. Maybe just a bit early for a IIc? Camo? DG/OG/MSG, DG/OG/Black, or black overall? i would go for the last. Markings? Early roundels with red codes? Late roundels and red codes? Maybe no code at all? Any help much appreciated. Antoine
Thanks! Anything else, about camo/codes/serial?
gingerbob
Well, I'll happily defer to others, but I think all-black is most likely for this date. Not at all sure about the colour of aircraft code letters, though. The only photos I immediately find of this squadron's aircraft are later, it appears. By the way, I just checked the serial lists in Mason's "The Hawker Hurricane" (newer edition) and, while it does not list yours, there are some others given as IICs either side of this serial going to 247 Sqn, so that at least seems fairly safe. The official new-style roundels didn't come until 1942, but it is possible that some local modification was done. However, this being their first intruder operation, standard seems likely. Not much help! bob
