Airfix 1/72 Buccaneer S2B Guinness Girl in Flight

Recommended Posts

Here is my effort at the Airfix's 1/72 Buccaneer S2B in Gulf War livery.

I used the upgrade resin parts from Freightdog for the nose, refuelling probe, elevators, etc and the decals for "Guinness Girl" were from Model Alliance. The stand was made from a piece of oak flooring and brass tubing. You will also need a lot of filler but the kit is pretty straight forward. The paints used were Xtracrylix, Tamiya and Vallejo. Anyway here are a few photo's and please let me know what you think or if you have any questions?

Cheers

Ian

Very nice indeed. May have to get one of these.

Where was filler needed most?

I used the most filler around the air brake where it joins the fuselage and at the rear of the fuselage, on the fuselage joints just behind the jet nozzles.

I forgot to say that the pilots are from Revell 1/72 NATO pilots kit and the navigator's win shield was made from a scrap piece of clear plastic. The kit one isn't very good. I also pinned the wings with copper wire to keep them level while the glue set. The ejector seat pulls were made from thin copper wire wound around a pin, cut and bent into shape. And finally all the panel lines were re-scribed as the are all raised. Hope this helps as it all great fun.

Thanks Mach. This was the first time I have used resin but you are right, compared to kit supplied nose, etc they are spot on. The panel lines did take a fair bit of time but I think I am cracking up as I quite enjoy doing it now.

Cheers

Never noticed till now that they flew them with one fuel tank. I wonder if they could fill it. Only thing I would have changed was a little more time on the intakes with filler. I've always liked the complete lack of political correctness of the nose art. Somebody in authority knew when it was the right time to look the other way.

Beauty, you've done an amazing job. I keep thinking about getting one of these, but hoping someone releases a new tool before I get round to it!
