Paul J
They are like an overgrown Rutan Vari Eze! But I love 'em.
Smokeyr67
I'm not usually a 72nd scale modeller, but for the Starship I'm more than willing to change that!
Learstang
I don't normally do civilian aircraft, but I might be tempted with these. Regards, Jason
tonyp
The second example might appeal to Trekkies. Was owned by Starship Enterprises and has a logo very close to the starfleet command logo.
upnorth
That's certainly a temptation! Lots of "What if" potential in that one.
Giorgio N
They are like an overgrown Rutan Vari Eze! But I love 'em. Not surprising as Burt Rutan had a part in the design. They were lovely machines, there are a couple of good websites on the Starship, one of them by the owner of one of the few still flying: http://www.bobscherer.com/Pages/Starship.htm I don't normally do civilian aircraft, but I might be tempted with these. Regards, Jason Same here ! I love the design and also have a strange soft spot for Amodel kits... perfect combination here !

GreenDragon
£33.60 is higher than I want to pay but I've got to have one! Need to bung some cash in the bank first though. Think I'll get the red trimmed one coz she looks prettier in the all-up configuration. Paul Harrison Edited June 17, 2014 by GreenDragon
Mike N
Does anyone know if it's just the decals that are different between the boxes, or is there something else? Mike
GreenDragon
Does anyone know if it's just the decals that are different between the boxes, or is there something else? Mike Should be the same plastic as they are both production aircraft. Last info I have is that N641SE (c/n NC46) is owned by Starship Enterprises ,Inc. and not sure if it's flying, last heard it's in storage at Tuscon. N8285Q (c/n NC50) is owned by RNS Aircraft,LLC and is still flying in 2014. Paul Harrison
cmatthewbacon
IIRC, in 1:72 it'll be pretty big. I remember being surprised by how large an aircraft the Starship was the first time I got up close and personal with one. It does seem a little odd to be releasing two boxes if ONLY the decals differ, since I'm sure one decal sheet could easily hold two lots of stripes, reg numbers and tail logos... bestest, M,
GreenDragon
Yep, tis odd. Wonder if there is only one option in each kit? I would have thought they'd do Burt Rutan's one, N514RS (c/n NC51), as it's more famous than all the others. Chase plane for Global Flyer, Boeing X-37, Spacship One, White Knight and who knows what else? Anybody got one yet, or some sprue pics etc.? cmatthewbacon
I guess the basic white colour is part of the construction process. I worked on an "advanced materials" magazine when the Starship launched, and I do remember that getting the carbon fibre airframe through the FAA approval process was a lengthy and difficult process, with lightning strike and impact resistance being particularly tricky, which probably meant that only one, factory applied, surface coating was permitted. Which is a shame, because I thought I had a memory of a super cool looking one in overall metallic graphite grey, but after trawling through airliners.net, I think I must have imagined it... bestest, M. GreenDragon
Thought I saw one in Metallic Blue on CSI Miami or some other cop show. Paul Harrison
172flogger
And different canards? L.
Flankerman
The canards are variable geometry - they can alter the sweep angle. Maybe that's the difference?? - one is in the landing configuration with the canard swept forward, the other is cruising with them swept back. Just a thought.... Marcus.Q1000859
Hi I think there are many more examples of the Piaggio P180 Avanti & Avanti ll in full colour schemes attached is a link to a metallic gray bird. Yes it is not the Beechcraft but there are not many Canard twin turbo prop pushers out there so perhaps just a case of mistaken identity as there are just a few Beechcrafts flying but hundreds of the Piaggios http://img1.pictaero.com/2013/01/21/s/184626.jpg pic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piaggio_P.180_Avanti wiki Apologies for bumping this into the Starship thread. Flankerman
It looks like you get both styles of canard - forward and swept - in the box anyway - so that can't be the difference. Plus maybe feathered and full pitch props ??? Ken
Madoc
So, what is the difference between the two boxings?
