Tiger331
Hi there, I'm just about to commit paint to a Dragon 1:144 Lockheed U-2R and I'm concerned that it will end up looking like a 'Black Blob'. Any tips on how to apply an overall black color scheme to a small model that accentuates some of the detail and avoids it looking plain boring ?. heloman1
Compulcolour produced SR-71 black at one stage, it had a blue hue to it. So, maybe midnight blue and add some black. Colin
Parabat
Tbh, the RAM coating has more of a brown hue. I've had a look at the F-117 WIPs for some answers as they have the same tonal finish to my eye. I have planned for my F-117 to do undercoats on panels of cream, yellow and grey and use a black with some brown added for the top coat. Some overspray with a clear smoke and then some pastel shading.
Planebuilder62
When I did my TR 1A recently I used Humbrol gloss black with revell no 6 mixed about 4:1 for most of the plane. Radomes were gloss black with less grey. After decalling it was matt varnished. Looked ok I thought.
