I finished filing in the flat section window pane area. then gradually started to add the strip to the rear of the forward section. So far its looking how I want with the angles in there. Once all the strips are on and lightly reduced, blended and slightly filled at the back to blend tot he rear section it should look ok I hope. The forward area of the rear section actually looks like it needs a slight build up to me. I hope I am right.

Its a slow process mainly due to fumbling with piece of plastic trying to visualise what will and wont work.. But I decided to go the longer route with the finer strip to outline each frame as per the real thing. It should help me get it closer to the real thing .

Looking good Rob, very neat solution to recreating the canopy. I'm off to Southport on Saturday in the hope that XH558 manages to put in an appearance. If the end of season fly-over doesn't happen this will probably be my last chance to see her in flight. Can't wait.

I've just spent the last hour or so reading through this from the start. You're doing a fantastic job here, Rob, I'll be following closely!

Sadly I won't get to see the Vulcan in flight again as I live across the pond now, but I have vivid memories of seeing it as a kid and wondering how the heck it never fell out of the sky at such crazy angles, and what looked like low speeds! Sweet memories indeed.....

It's going to be an early start for us too Rob, we want to try and park up on the beach. Mrs Nimrod and I might pop across to see you if that's OK.

Hi sure come over say hello. I might be with my other half if not I will be on my own. I am not missing this for the world might be the last time I get to see her. So sad and I feel its so wrong shes so special. Just as important as any WW2 Bird. At least the Vulcan Stopped wars. That has to be worth celebrating.

It just seems wrong to me when she is still flight worthy with hours on. I dunno I just can't get used to the idea of it stopping flying again. I still haven’t got used to the fact she is flying again.

Be great to see you. Cheers Rob :)

I had a curious measure of the canopy and the 1/144 drawings and did some maths and frog got it smack on.

I would love to know how they used to make kits because the old ones so often seem to be right :)

Rob, I will send you a PM with my contact details, just send a text when you are around and we will get across to meet you. Don't do that if the Vulcan is displaying though, Mrs N will have my guts for garters if that happens - she is a Vulcan nut.

I am not likely to say a word when she is flying. Look forward to the PM

Well thats the hard part of the framing done. Now to tidy it up and slightly reduce it then blend to the rear canopy. Also got to recess the side windows which I work out to be approximately 3mm. I picked up some Milling Bits for these (Thanks to Perdu for thinking of the name of them) They will allow me to cut a flat bottomed hole or recess.

Looking great so far, Rob! Top work :)

Cheers mate. Just filing down the Bomb Aimers window. Its a bit vague in shape. and again no window is given.

So I am cutting it back then I will bead it with plastic strip to get the shape then blend it with Milliput and I should have a recessed window that is the right size.

I hope :)

Well I am in an odd mood of reflection mixed with sadness and happy memories. I saw the Vulcan fly at Southport for quite possibly the last time yesterday and it was an amazing Display I nearly missed her.

What's weird is when I got in I watched a few videos of her and had a Beer I though I would watch the Video of her at Wroughton in 92 when I first saw her. Then noticed it was on the 19th September 92... Yesterday was the 19th September 15 !! how very weird is that !

It was an amazing display and nicely Noisy very dynamic and sadly over in a flash. The final climb out was something else. I had a tear in my eye and a Lump in my throat. after that an ever weirder coincidence happened when on the way home through my old home town on St Helens by chance we came past my Grandads place of rest who I first saw the Vulcan with back in 92 so I went by to say hello for the first time since we lay him to rest and then had a tear and a lump in my throat again.

Memories are wonderful things as when all is said and done that’s pretty much all that’s ever left.

Its odd to work on anything Vulcan at the moment but I hope to be part of many people keeping the memories alive. Now the B2 leaves the scene I will carry on bringing this little B1 back to life :)

Again I have gradually glued and bent around the window frames and now I can start to milliput in in and blend it.

Cheers Rob :)

I am proud that I feel these emotions. More a man if you cry I think. To have these moments and to realise so many feel the same are moments that make you realise what bring us closer as a society we need to keep things like this alive for that and many other reasons. All part of the Human experience.

When I was younger this quote from Star Trek Generations has always left its mark on me. Its from the end when Captain Picard shares an exchange with Commander Riker. I know its fiction but its still a fantastic piece of writing.

"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. But I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important how we lived. After all, Number One, we're only mortal."

Good morning,

Sorry to bother you, could I ask where you got the Vulcan plans from? I should have asked a week or two ago when I noticed them in one of your other build threads :P

Thanks,

Sam

True and I am guilty of saying way to many words. Sometimes in search of trying to find the right words but I never can. I guess this is why I love music it says feelings you play a certain chord and it conveys and emotion and you cant misinterpret that.

There I go again I think I should change my name from robvulcan to waffle :ike::)

Rob,

I thought you might like this, it was sent to me by my Vulcan mad wife after reading her latest newsbite from VTTS - and yes we do live in the same house.

Vulcan Southport 2015

Enjoy.

Thanks John yes its a fantastic Video and it brings a tear to the eye something I will never forget is any of the Vulcan displays I have seen but that one was particularly good. She was very much upside down on the last pass climb out over see.

I will also never forget each night before an airshow not being able to sleep with too much excitement that I would be going to various airshows over the years to see the Vulcan. Certainly the highlight of any show for me.
