snapper_city
Nothing much to report other than seem line cleaning up and the fuselages have only a small bit of work to go. Next stop will be scribing which scares the hell out of me and I still haven't ordered a scribing tool... Neal
Coming on nicely. For scribing in 144th (I'm absolutely no expert though) I've used a sewing machine needle in a pin vice pretty sucessfully.
justin1980
Looking good snapper, I did have one of these in the stash, but sold it a couple of years ago, as I didn't think my skills were good enough at the time. Damn shame as I want again! The turrets look great, looking forward to see how the scribing goes as I am scribing virgin!
snapper_city
Thanks guys. I'll look into that method Neal but would need to go shopping as I don't have any needles. Justin, this kit is cheap as chips and apart from decals are identical. Buy one. Yes it might not be the ideal aircraft to break the scribing cherry on but we all have to start somewhere. I'm thinking about cleaning up the plastic ring that security seals a plastic drinks bottle and using it as a guide/rule to scribe the fuselage.

Shermaniac
Scribing Tools: Trumpeter do a really fine and not too expensive (£4.99) Hobby Line Engraver which would be absolutely ideal for what you need, especially at that scale. I've just looked on the Creative website and they have some here honestly, I'd invest in a couple at that price. Also, SleeperService uses Dymotape tape as a guide as it is quite thick and pliable, saw him use it yesterday actually!
JOCKNEY
Great work on these I had no idea they need so much weight in the nose, I only hope the undercarriage is up to it ! Cheers Pat
snapper_city
My first ever go at scribing and the top of one of the B-29's wings are done. I am using aluminium tape as a guide which is working quite well and can be used quite a few times before the sticky becomes useless. Procopius
Nice! That looks like it might be a fair sight better than dymo tape, too!
Tomjw
Nice idea with the aluminium tape. I like what you did with the gun barrels as well. Tom.
badger
Looking good! Like the scribing idea of using ali tape. Hows the new scribing tool working out, as I have a bare metal foil one and aren't too impressed with it. Ben
snapper_city
Nice! That looks like it might be a fair sight better than dymo tape, too! Iv never used it so cant compare but this aluminium stuff is working well. Nice idea with the aluminium tape. I like what you did with the gun barrels as well. Tom. Thanks Tom. Glad you like it. Looking good! Like the scribing idea of using ali tape. Hows the new scribing tool working out, as I have a bare metal foil one and aren't too impressed with it. Ben Cheers Ben. The tool is working well and isn't too bad so far. It becomes tricky when trying to use it in smaller spaces like the underside between the inner and outer engines though. So far I have completed 3 of the 4 wings top and bottom. I feel I am being a little heavy handed though and sometimes digging larger trenches than I mean to. I'll probably end up giving it a shot of Mr Surfacer 500 when all the scribing is done and remember this is 1:144th. Update: All the wings are finished and one of the fuselage's is about 2/3's done. It's been interesting my first scribing experience and I feel I am improving the more I do.

snapper_city
They do look good but I am constantly aware when handling them that there are bits that can be knocked off on all corners. I've been looking at finishing the scribing over the last few days but with the good weather cycling has taken a priority. Coupled with the fact we are moving in two weeks and a pregnant wife to help I haven't had a lot of free time to get on with my builds. I will get on with these when I next have some free time..
Wolwe82
ofcourse, there are other things to do these days, use the good weather while it lasts! and my congratulation to you and your wife for the baby on the way
Nobby57
As I was saying at the Salisbury IPMS show two weeks ago...the more time I spend on Britmodeller, the less time I have to model. But it looks like I should try and do both Snapper; these are so charming and you're doing such a good job, I now want to try one of these. Always loved the B-29, but as space is at a premium never thought I'd get the chance. You've changed that. Keep up the excellent work...I can see we're in for a real treat. snapper_city
Thanks guys. One house move complete and normality has started to resume. The bench is kind of set back up and scribing has continued. I will really need to get my toe down on these and my other entry for the GB for the remaining month. snapper_city
Unfortunately things have been very busy lately. I only managed to get about 3 hours work in over the last 4 days. The scribing is finally finished (I don't want to be doing that too often) and the wings have been attached. IMG_4160 by Snapper_city, on Flickr IMG_4161 by Snapper_city, on Flickr IMG_4162 by Snapper_city, on Flickr They are starting to out grow the nest. IMG_4165 by Snapper_city, on Flickr The wings fit like a dream. Not a single bit of sanding was needed to get the best fit possible. Now wheres the filler. IMG_4166 by Snapper_city, on Flickr IMG_4167 by Snapper_city, on Flickr These kits are bigger than expected. Here next to 1:72 Airfix Bulldog for comparison.
